To be pedantic, the L85 does NOT have a 3/8" dovetail rail.
Given that you can clampn ACOG to it, common sense dictates it's almost 20mm wide. Probably around 19mm or 3/4".

A 3/8" dovtail rail is (IIRC) what you get on an air rifle and it is WAY smaller than the dovetail rail on the L85.

Sorry, you are right, i was thinking of air rifles when i posted, i also measured my STAR L85 rail and is indeed a 3/4".

Its ironic that they've just got round to releasing it as it's about to be phased out.

For every rumour that the saty is being phased out there are three confirmations that it isn't. The standard issue infantry weapon will remain the saty for a decade or two longer, however there are an increacingly large number of other weapons* that soldiers are carrying into combat so the saty is not "as common" as it where.

*EG m4s90, minimi, the 7.62 armirite etc

I think hes speaking of the SUSAT, not the L85 (SA80 isnt a weapon, its a research program), when he says its being phased out. Which, the SUSAT is, currently they use ACOGs wherever possible, and the MOD ordered a load of ELCAN SpectreDRs as well....

actually they ordered Elcan LDWS or Light Day Weapon Scopes. Which are similar to the Spectre.

Well, tbh, when i think L85, i think SUSAT.... i too have been after an airsoftable one for a while.... If there is ever a Red dot SUSAT, that would be win.

The only reason I'd have one would be to keep my ICS in retro mode and then buy an Ares to pimp, as nothing seems to fit the ICS!
