Interesting, perhaps this is influence of strikeball and military going hand in hand in Russia, like how the TM type 89 was given to JGSDF or the Real Sword type 97 being given to the PLA (at least I recall that happened).

A sizable chunk of Russia and most of its population, including the entire Kirov Oblast in which that town is located, lies in Europe.

Haha, ok, was thinking EU, not 'continental Europe'.
