Any specific reason, for making it look like Swiss cheese?

As nice as it looks its a shame they chose to use normal screws, and cheap looking ones at that. Is it too much to ask for manufacturers to start putting high quality hardend steel allen key bolts in gearboxes instead?

Well, I cant see a customs person really going "Oh dear, that looks like a banana mag and its not an AK mag... CALL THE UMAREX HOTLINE!"...somewhere in germany, a lawyer picks up a red flashing plastic phone, V1s are launched at your house...etc etc

I could care less if they are Allen screws/bolts or flat headed screws as long as the don't suck like the screws on the newer CA gearboxes...they snap too easily! Other than that I am of the opinion that if this ugly little bugger performs well, I will be buying some of them. I care less about looks and more about substance/functionality when it comes to gearboxes. Now if they did this to a gun body I would pass. ;D

Looks like a dirttrap waiting to happen. Last time I took apart a gearbox, I found a couple of pineneedles in it. Wonder what one could find in this ;D

This might pretty likely outperform regular Systema drop in boxes any day of the week. I can't think of a Modify internal part that isn't great.

True, MODIFY internal parts are just great. The modular gears also very convenient. Regarding Systema, they will most certainly outperform in price smile.gif

Looking forward to this gearbox also. This photo is an urly version and not the final production version as MODIFY stated. We will see, can't wait.

What?

So you have to waste time looking for the right size allen key to open 'er up???????????

& countersinking is out of the question.

It's not like you need a load of leaverage to open/close a mech-box.

Allen's are preferable in certain applications, as are torx, but they ain't the answer to everything. IMO biggrin.gif

Greg.

My site allows them ive checked and ive found of from wolf armuries in london and i think they do Two Tone spray jobs so i try them

So a 2mm allen key is massivly hard to find? And what do you mean countersinking is out of the question?

I don't want allen key bolts for the leverage, i want them because a good allen key bolt with a good allen key will outlast a normal screw headed bolt by miles when you are opening and closing up gearboxes regually to fine tune them. I fully bolt up gearboxes every time i shim a gear, then shim gears against eachother to make sure they aren't too tight when the gearbox is actually being used meaning i can unscrew them then put them back in a lot of times, the normal *suitcase* screws manufacturers put in just don't cope as well with that.

Yea, I have way more Allen keys, and more high quality allen keys then I do flat head or phillips drivers. Allen doesn't strip as easily. I'm having that same problem of longevity and it SUCKS when regular screws fall apart inside an important piece.

That doesn't make much sense to me. You will notice that kind of failures in the instant they happen (big crack sound, horrible grinding sound, no air pressure). And if your gun is toast, you will have to take the gearbox apart to actually fix it. Still I see no real gain there. On the other hand the big holes make this gearbox a dust magnet.

Agreed with Pendra, I wouldn't want too many holes in the gearbox for ###### to fall in there. If there's anything I care about, maybe just an opening to access the ARL. As for the screws, I personally prefer Phillips to an Hex/Allen head. But if hardened screws can -only- be made with Hex/Allen, then fine, I'd prioritise hardened screws over head types.

They have said improvements are to be made. Maybe this means that they will change the screws? I like how the gearbox is opened up (I play CQB and not much dust) But if your receiver is closed and u slap a piece of tape on this hole, i think u wont have a problem.

you can also use the holes to service the gearbox (ad lube to the piston and gears. KWA added a hole to their gearbox in order to allow the lubing of the piston) without having to open it up. also, it helps the shimming process having more windows to look through.

although, does it use the modular gearsets? that would negate the shimming process.

Anyone who has owned a haynes box with hardened allen bolts(they come with them) will know how much more awesome they are compared to philips/flathead....

All you do is slot in the allen wrench and spin, it makes opening/closing that much faster/easier... There is also no worrying about stripping/destroying the screw head.

As for the holes, they are sorta cool, but I agree they'll only get the internals dirtier.

the box is drilled for 6mm, but the gears have internal 7mm berings.

Everything I've tried from MODIFY has been golden! This is going to be great (I hope). I bet it'll be much more reasonable in price than the systema gearboxes.
