Just seen these at RW. If they are compatable with the movie prop edition then it will be very tempting, providing i can find it in stock somewhere.

but wasnt the problem on the movie prop edition similar to glocks as a tab on the underside of the barrel or something wears down on green gas? plus the movie prop version's slide is internally metal framed i think. so if you buy this to run it on green the barrel tab thingy (something like that, i saw it in a review) will wear down and break, but it wont run well on 134a due to the heavier slide.

i think the barrel tab or whatever issue is mentioned in the review database.

Edit: found the bit in the review:
"a little further investigation reveals that the metal sub-frame in the slide is in two pieces.
Unfortunately Maruzen have left the chamber area of the slide (where you'd expect it to break if using Green) without this reinforcement so propane seems like a no-go at present..."

It's made by Prime not PGC...also if the area "where you'd expect it to break if using Green" is "the chamber area of the slide", won't the metal slide alleviate it from breaking?

Has anyone ever had a Maruzen P99 break on green gas? If so, where?

If not, what's with all the pointless guesswork?

Cheers.

I have the "original" P99, not sure if it's ver1 or 2 or know what's the difference between the two. And I also have the Zeke metal slide on it. It not one of my pieces that I use a lot, but when I do I only use green and it has functioned flawlessly so far...

Hmm, I wonder how silver would look on a tan frame.

the thought makes me feel slightly ill.

eitherway, if this slide becomes easier to come by than the zeke one it may have rekindled my deliberately repressed urge for a metal slide P99

I was under the impression that the only significant problem with the Maruzen P99's was the mag catch wearing down, and this was solved by using a different metal for the magazine in the "V2's" and therefore movie prop edition. I dont think ive ever heard of them being susceptible to breaking on green, but then again i dont own one so havnt been reading up on them/have experiance of them.

My friend had the movie prop edition and it has not been working properly. Not sure if its because of green gas usage but the pistol fails to blowback on every shot.

My "movie prop" version works fine. On duster, I can barely get one mag out of it though.

I tried propane, got 4 mags worth through it, and it functioned flawlessly.

Yea it worked perfectly for a few weeks on propane but then he started getting that problem. Thought it was the fill valve or the mag but upon replacing both, the problem still exists.

I've had my P99 for almost 4 years. It's only ever seen green gas. I've had no problems with it.

Back when I first bought it I wanted to put a metal slide on it, since all the other GBB's I own also have metal slides. But after using it as my primary pistol for so long, I like the fact that it's light weight the way it is.

Metal Slide, interesting indeed.
I only have 2 brain cells left. And right now they are playing duck-duck-goose.

Snowman- Pre 'movie prop edition' they were not that robust (from the ones that have been in NZ running on propane/ET1000) in the hammer area. I cannot remember which parts were affected, but the effect was that it would not fire, nor would the slide move back correctly. 1 break and 1 deformed part in there.

Through hearsay, the M.P edition is more robust.

The metal slide looks nice I think I might buy a p99 now, but heres my last question. Have they started making new magazines that are made with Zinc rather than steel so it doesnt wear down the mag catch. I'm looking on redwolf and I'm not sure which is the magazine and the old magazine(if there is a new one or old one)

thanks
phil

These emoticons are the simplest way for me to express the joy I am feeling:

shocked.gif padlock.gif

I've been meaning to get a Maruzen P99 for some time, the only restricing factor was being unable to find a metal slide to compliment it, and make it safe (at least in my eyes) for green gas. This just pushed me over the edge of no return.

Wege,

The symptons you describe sound like the result of the mag catch wearing out.

I had one that did that when I bought it and a layer of Chemical Metal around the catch solved the problem.

Cheers.

Maruzen updated the magazines to zinc quite a long time ago. At least all the magazines at Redwolf are the new zinc versions. Maruzen didn't change the product code or anything, so a lot of retailers may not have any mention of this update.
