Do you mean a rail to mount an optical sight on? The army has a 20mm rail on top so uit fits most optics available.

The rail found on the SA80 series is a plain dovetail and therefore it will not accept most military optics without the use of an adapter as in the main they use Picatinny rails.

No the Picatinny rail is not a dove tail profile, it is a <> when looked at end on, so cutting notches into an SA80 rail will still not allow Picatinny railed sights to fit without some type of adapter.

Not read about any other types being used though.
And even if the profile is wrong, just means you have to sand the corners aswell.

You can't fit the Star SUSAT on the stock G&G L85 rail (dunno about the Army one) cos the rail is fractionally too wide and only the centre part of the SUSAT is a clamp. The end parts are just guides that are sized exactly to fit the Star rail.
That's why you need to file down the underside of the V-grooves in the G&G rail slightly.
It's not so the clamp will fit. It's so that the guides will fit over it.

*shrugs* I didn't even know the ARMY SA80 came with a rail period. I thought it came with just the carry handle and front site tower. Woops. My bad.

I just saw the G&G replacement piston that comes standard with their L85A2. The second tooth has been removed.
