Pretty much says it all. Pretty cheap, as far as Mult-Cam goes.

It's the wrong cut for the real stuff isn't it? Licensed reproduction perhaps?

It's Propper, not Crye.

Then how'd they get the MultiCam name legally?

Those are supposedly made by Propper: Shirt, Pants.

Talking to the reps at Crye Precision, they actually prefer the quality of Propper's BDUs over that of the Tru Specs (Tru Specs are also double the price of Propper's BDUs).

Crye Precision sells the fabric by the yard. If you use real Multicam fabric in a product, you are allowed to use the name "Multicam" legally. They sell large amounts of their fabric to companies like Propper and TruSpec because they are well aware of the fact that people wish to buy real Multicam BDUs, and Crye is simply too busy with their own contracts to fill regular civilian consumer level needs.

These BDUs are a different cut than that of Crye's Field and Combat BDUs and therefore are not infringing on Crye's patents and copyrights. These are 100% legit. Just like when SKD Tactical were making BDUs in the ACU cut.

This is also part of Crye's approach to dealing with the counterfeit products coming out of Asia. Why buy counterfeit Multicam BDUs when you can buy real Multicam BDUs for less?

They also license the pattern so people can print authentic MultiCam on their own fabric or hard surfaces.

You'd know all of this already if you'd read my MultiCam article in Airsoft International in the June issue. ;-)

Would it be right to assume then that the companies licenced to print multicam would have to prove to Crye that their printing quality is up to a certain standard? (if not then you might as well try to pick up fakes; let's please not get into a moral dispute biggrin.gif )

Otherwise if the standard was not high enough it would tarnish the Multicam brand name smile.gif

Fair enough. It was of course public knowledge for some time before it appeared in print.

What was your email about? He does get a lot of them...

I have a set of both the Propper & the Tru-Spec ACU cut Multi-cam.

Without getting too in depth here's a mini-review:

The Tru-Spec is cut slightly smaller than the Propper but only slightly, shouldn't be an issue for anyone unless your on the verge of needing to go up one size. The Propper set fits exactly the same as my GI ACUs.

I like the material Tru-Spec uses better than that of the Propper set.
Propper is 65/35 Poly/cotton & the Tru-Spec is 50/50 poly/cotton. The Propper is kind of stiff, but I'm sure that will change as soon as I wash them a few times.

There is some color differences between the two brands as well, which struck me slightly odd seeing as they are both licensed by Crye. Anyway, the Propper has brighter greens & darker brown than the Tru-Spec.
The Tru-Spec looks dead on with the photos from Crye's website.

The Propper set comes with all the Velcro sewn on just as issue ACUs do. The Tru-Spec has all the same Velcro as well but the name tape & (chest) rank Velcro is not sewn on. (It comes in a plastic bag attached with the tags)

The only other difference between the two brands I've found thus far is the color of the zippers. Propper's is green & Tru-Spec's is tan.
Long Live the M14 Brotherhood!

Multicam - perfect when you're hiding up against a moldy wall (you may get easily spotted in all other environments, but hey, you can't have everything).

Those Multicam / Universal Camo things are funny. They make it clear that human lives are cheaper than seperate uniforms for seperate environments. What's next, Bullseye Camo? laugh.gif

LOL you're trusting a gallery from the owners of the Camo Pattern? Albeit Multi-Cam is more effective then ACU but seperates are much better imho. Anyway back on topic lads.

You need to get the right camo for your environment. It just so happens Multicam is more effective than most camos in more environments. It's not perfect, but I've yet to come across a pattern that works better as a universal pattern.

I will also add that, for my environment, the California bush and desert, multicam works better than any other camo pattern I've seen used out here, and is just as effective as the pics on the camo pattern website suggest it is.
