I think Unicorn makes them with ribbed covers for the "Cool factor". I'd bet if they know it that they dont have ribbed covers they would be a lot happy about it because it would cost less.

to be fair its an easy enough fix along wih the bolt to replace them with third party ones - just a shame they go to all the hassle of making a front end and a sidefolding stock and then skimp on top cover and putting together a better bolt

If the Unicorn AK's are Inokatsu/TM based, you can just swap it out for any Marui compatible top cover... or if they're VFC based, you could just use a real top cover, since it's not a pressure bearing part, I don't think. But then again, finding a real-steel smooth top cover might be difficult.

VFC retains Marui topcover length. It's the RealSword that's different.

If these are anything like the AKSU's, I'm staying clear.

mrk, watch your back dude, Chris Costa's beard is going to come and get you, I imagine in a similar way that Chuck Norris' might, and when it's done with you, Matt Johnson is going to make you a 750D Cordura bodybag (it's innovatively better than 500D and 1000D, naturally), in a khaki colour that's not quite green, not quite tan, not quite khaki. With grey trim, of course.

I'm actually going to agree with TCB here and say that I'd much rather wait a bit and get a D-Boys/Kalash one instead of the Unicorn. The price is relatively similar and the overall QC and internal quality has been shown to be much better when comparing the Kalash AKS-74U to the Unicorn.

Sure, there may be a few parts here and there that are steel on the Unicorn that are potmetal on the Kalash, and you'll probably need to file down the Kalash's mag catch a bit to make it compatible with other brands of mags and drop a lower power spring it it, but overall the Kalash guns have shown themselves to have much better QC and internal build quality when compared to Unicorn's guns. Plus at least Kalash was able to get the bolt right laugh.gif

But then again... as Snorkleman said, this is pretty much an AK lover's dream to see all these full metal and partially steel AKs hitting the market at such cheap prices! Even if the QC and internal build is a little shoddy here and there those things are all pretty fixable and the price still makes it a great deal. But IMHO you're still better off waiting for a Kalash version of these newer guns if thats type of AK your after.

Yeah I was thinking the same afterwards, and staring down at my dead Cyma CM.028-S. I would'nt mine doing a little switcharoo with the 2, plus I was looking for a 104/105 kit to test my new Action AK 8mm bearing gearbox set, but still I'm not really sure if I want to hollow out these new Unicorn AK's or save up for a nice INO/RMW kit.

Oh and isn't JG coming out with there own 74 style AKs (if anyone can confirm)? ..... *sigh* so many AKs with so little time and money.

I've never heard that before.. and I'm the type of guy who knows these things.  unsure.gif

I don't like the lower receiver on these... it looks bland.. or maybe its just the pics.  Someone like RMW shoot nicer pics like they did for their Unicorn AKS74u.

What's wrong with Unicorn?

It's supposed that with a little work 'out of the box' they're fine and solid guns. The dboys/kalash guns need some tweaking too.

Sure they don't feature rs-like dissasembly, the barrel is not pinned, etc, but being allsteel is pretty cool for the price and they have the best looking wood of all the ACM clone AKSUs imho.

I can't wait for their AKM, it they put some nice wood (dboys/kalash wood looks like plastic), it will rock with the blued finishing of the AKSU.

They're the pics for sure.

Gunner is a poor photographer.
