Aug Picture Thread

Recommended Posts

Well the plan is:

I have a civilian stock, and a mechbox that is being quitened down, so to speak.

The stock will be padded out with sound deadening foam but what I dont have (now) is an outer barrel. I'm looking to add a short outer barrel that will alow the addition of a silencer. I have seen various kits on the on-line stores, but they all seem to require at least some part of the outer barrel assembly.

To put it bluntly, I need the outer barrel assembly, just like the one I've sold to Amateurstuntman *facepalm*

Ah. Can't help you there. I've only got the actual outer barrel itself (the bit between the foregrip block and the flash excluder), not the full thing. Project AUG eats barrel sections, leaving stocks and receivers going spare.

Look at the picture, every barrel section you see there, apart from the one on the gun, that's a dead AUG, sacrificed on the altar of Project AUG...

I have no idea how much the whole lot has cost me, over the years, I shudder to think...

Let's see if we can get some idea. Assuming £150 per rifle, I've got (in approx chronological order):

1. Standard

2. H-Bar

3. M203

4. Short AUG

5. Para/Commando

6. A3esque

7. Masterkey

So that's £1050 right there. Then there's the cost of the M203 and adapator, then the shotgun and Masterkey conversion kit (expensive) the Boom Arms H-Bar kit (expensive) the various barrel sets and flash excluders. 12 standard magazines, 6 hi-caps and a drum mag (£90!), 4 custom batteries, the scope, the re/green dot sight, folding iron sights, rail covers, metal hop-up units, tightbore inner barrels of various lengths, rifle case to keep it in, postage....

Probably well over £2000... :o:wacko:

Ah, but I'd do it all over again. Just love the AUG...

DoH! and if you look up in my pic you can just about see it on the AUG above...

Well the long mag works and I'll be making some more... It's a highcap (not a lot of point in making a standard that size really, plus a whole LOT of hassle) and it holds 520 rounds plus 40 up the spout.

I'll take better pics as soon as I get new batteries for the good camera...

Great work! Looks good. Pity about the numbers, but you can't have everything.

How plausible would it be to make an extended "standard" mag, rather than a hi-cap?

Like Stunt says, it's doable, but far too much bother for me! 5 channels for BB's to cut through and extend and then shore up and strengthen the whole lot... then you'd need to find a new spring (maybe from an AK standard mag?) which would mean sacrificing another mag to the beast...

And all for what? A 130 round midcap or a 200 round odd midcap if you use a king arms mag. The whole reason I'm doing these is to get big mags to make using the H-bar in a support role somewhat feasible (without having to carry my own weight in mags).

Heres the first unready Phantom pic.

Next project is the bipods, or grippods and after it a "C36c top" so i would get a different look to it ;) Meaby shortening the phantom barrel like 15cm and ripping the gp-25 handle off, making it a bit more tactical and short. After it a custom paintjob seen on the jacket its called M05 here in Finland. Badge is used at EUBG - Nordic Battlegroup.

Yeah, but hi-caps are ######.

Well each to their own... I've got plenty of lowcaps for general play, I'm making these for a specific reason... I did think about making a drum mag, but I reckoned this'd be easier (better looking too)...

Anyhoo, I've been beavering away with the cocking handle and stumbled onto a problem (actually I was afraid this'd happen). It seems the curved back side of the A2 style handle interferes with the shape of the bit it mounts onto...

DSCF2821.jpg

This is obviously still rough... Moving the handle backwards on its mounting would mean that it hits the back of it's travel too soon and the handle could no longer be locked back.

So here's the question, would you bunch of AUG lovers rather permanently modify the original part to be able to fit this, or would ye prefer an altered shape to the handle...

Personally I'm for cutting back the mount, but as I'm planning on selling these I'd beter at least hear what oterh people feel about it...

Being more of a practical skirmisher i tend to go for functionality over form.

Then i got an AUG and got the best of both worlds! :)

But, after a session at Spectre Urban a few months ago i realised that i desperately needed a torch adding and also saw how useful an M203 could be, so i acquired some rails and set about me poor beasty.

The results are below and are probably not to everyones tastes, but it ain't arf useful! :D

Note: I've sprayed the retaining bolt black now and I am going to get a foldable RIS attachable foregrip for when the 203 gets a bit too heavy.

Wow Im liking that rail! Did you custom make it or buy it somewhere?

Tread - How would you need to alter the shape of the cocking handle to make it work? Would it be drastic?

Here's the best pic of the real steel cocking handle that I could find in a brief search:

Yup, been using that one for reference... In the pic I posted the shape was still rough... most recent shape (almost done):

DSCF2835.jpg

You can see how much is protruding, all that would need to be removed, plus another 2mm or so to allow a correctly shaped handle to fit.

To leave it intact I'd need to go at least 2mm outside the part, effectively making the handle straight up the back to the top of the metal part... The way I see it, that'd make the piece look like the A1 handle wearing a smurf hat... The main problem is that the back of the handle is only about 2-3mm from the back of the metal part, allowing no room for maneuver...

Yeah - it'll be simple enough to fit them, pop of the original, trim mounting brackety party bit and fit new one. It should be even possible to file down the existing metal mounting piece without removing it from the receiver (though it would be a better idea to do so...)

The finished one(s) will be cast resin, hopefully colour matched to the guns. I know I can do black, but I've got to find a suitable green pigment...
