Stefan Boltz, a friend of my grandfathers, was in the Tottenkopf. He was originally from Czechoslovakia and was drafted into the German army. He was a tank driver (Tiger I think) and was one of the blokes sent to get Eickes body. He fought in Russia and I seem to remember him saying he was captured in Poland (unsure about that one) by some Americans who stole his watch and two of his friends gold teeth. He was then brought over to Manchester (Oldham to those who know it) as a POW and thats where he met his wife to be, who was a friend of my grandfather, and the rest is history. He currently lives in Devon and drinks far too much wine :P

I didn't know he was in that particular unit actually, I was just reading the wiki and read about the recovery of Eicke and knew he'd mentioned being involved. Just thought a few of you may be interested in a little bit of 'real' history. But yeah, they're not all bad :) He told me a few little bits about kit and a couple of stories if anyone is interested?

Good stuff.

Lovely bayonet but... at the risk of being a git a no4 bayonet would have looked better as a MKV sten takes that sort.

Good news is they are only about £4

Never hurts to have a SMLE bayonet on your kit for early war impressions though.

(in trainspotter mode you probably want an skeleton type water bottle carrier with a SMLE bayonet, the envelope type come into service around 1943/44, its rare to see one pre Siciliy invasion.)

Yeps I am getting an SMLE so made more sense than a no4 bayonet. The sten is really going to be a back up to my SMLE as I adore enfield rifles lol and will also be used alongside my airborn kit when I get it.

On a sidenote, Yith how does the sten open up? I'm assuming it all comes out of the back as the body evidently won't open? Luck ran out today and she won't fire at the mo so gotta take a gander inside.

Just remember that SMLEs were almost never used by British Airborne personnel with the introduction of the No.4, so you'd have to tailor your loadout to Sicily and prior to use it properly ;) you do get to use some luvverly kit that way mind. Mmm, Bruneval lids...

I know, don't think I explained that well. The SMLE is for my infantry kit, and the Sten MKV is for my airborne kit

Undo the two bolts at the back of the receiver and the back will come off. Unscrew the pistol grip cover and that'll come off. Then unclip the trigger guard.

The whole lot will then slide out.

Don't lose the little aluminium ring as that holds the barrel in the right place.

Wow I never knew ww2 airsoft was so popular. I've been spending the last few hours skimming this thread and now all I can say is I want in. Any suggestions on good United state retailers for german Wehrmacht unifrom could be bought from. all I have found so far was trident military and they where very expensive. I usually never order from overseas but i am willing to if I have to. thank you. If I missed the answer to this question in the thread my apologies

Now that we're listing shops, we might as well continue the theme:

http://www.zeugmeisterei.com/

They have a pretty good selection of boots. If you're interested in German mountain-troops or want to get a pair of those cool looking tall desert-boots, this is your place. Repro, so naturally rather pricey.

next one is:

http://www.schipperfabrik.com/

If for some reason you need Belgian, Polish or Dutch gear, this is your place. They also have a pretty good selection of WW1 gear.

Personally, i could use some store-help too. I'm interested in buying an irish caubeen and an ANZAC slouch-hat. Recommendations on the place to buy?
