Are you hardcore enough? The Marine Corps Historical Assn hosted it's first Basic Recon School (BRS) this summer in eastern Washington, USA. 25% of those who began the school failed to complete the course. For those who did complete, it was an experience like no other. US Marine Corps instructors drilled candidates on techniques for four days straight.
Candidates qualified on the semi-automatic version of the M16A1 service rifle (real steel), they ran patrols, stood fire watch, and defended a hilltop base against attacks. Airsoft, pyrotechnics and blank fire were used to simulate combat conditions, several 1/2 pound charges startled candidates out of an easy night's watch to defend their positions. Working PRC 77 radios were used to communicate between the teams in the field and base. A video will be forthcoming in the months ahead. BRS is intended to be small. Only three candidates made it to graduation, and they did it in style wearing the MCHA official summer uniform. Graduates received a ribbon as well as a certificate of completion. The honor graduate, Gary Wright of Nebraska, received a plaque in addition to his ribbons. The MCHA will continue to host BRS as well as a new Tactical Assault School (TAS) in June 2010. Both schools are Vietnam reenactment focused. TAS will instruct candidates on the tactics involved in a Marine Reaction Force. Hit hard, hit fast. BRS is limited to 12 participants, TAS is limited to 35 candidates. If you are interested in taking "all the way" then email s3@mycorps.us for more information. Firewatch is the HARDEST thing I've EVER done in my military career.
In all seriousness though, it does sound kinda fun... Basically its an FTX, no? -------------------- |

lol I think I love you both. We're trying to get it more like a School than field training. We're simulating a Camp on the Rock in '68. We're looking for Marines as "Field Instructors" for 2010. If you're interested, or mildly intrigued, shoot me a PM.
Ya, BRC it's NOT. lol but we did have them in the water, lifting a 200# log and doing sit ups with it on their stomach as well as flutter kicks. They were yelled at, pushed down, slapped around, etc. The courses we do are definitely not for the average airsofter looking for a "good time playing airsoft." They do however fit the bill for civilians who want a fantasy adventure experience or to "feel what it's like" for a few days. Next year we'll be hosting a Tactical Assault School as well as our Basic Recon School. We're coordinating it so the BRS guys get practice calling in Hell on the bad guys. TAS students will the the Hell. This post has been edited by ssgtlou: Jun 19 2009, 12:05 AM -------------------- |
