A Dragunov SVD Custom

So, I really like the look of a plastic stock on an SVD. The problem is I have a wood set and the plastic ones available (A&K) are pretty much black versions of the wood stock.

In comes the Saiga Thumbhole Stock seen below... This was a take off from my Saiga .223 I had gotten. I had to have the stock swapped with a California legal setup before it hit my FFL.

This more resembles the modern SVD stock seen here

So.... After about 30 minutes on the mill, another 30 with a dremel and a drill press later, I got this!

The cheek rest really helps with maintaining a good cheek weld to line up with the scope. and it rotates out of the way when I am using my irons.

The mod is not as clean as I had hoped it would be though. If I had fully removed the Saiga mounting block, the trigger would sit too close to the grip and feel weird. This is a 60 dollar stock... I don't wanna mess it up and try to buy another and deal with trying to get it sent into California <_< . The original wood stock I had only had 2 wood screw towards the rear that attaches to the receiver. Under the spring guide block, there are is another hole, with a countered bore, so I went ahead and drilled an extra hole for another screw and now she feels super solid without having to rely on the receiver catch lip to stability.

Here are the cuts I made....

All and all for an hour and a half of my time, it turned out really well. Now all I need is to source a plastic front end to match. Although it does look pretty unique on its own

What is pretty cool is the Saiga uses the same rear trunion as an AK47.

This SVD is currently gutted on the inside. She will be made into a GBB in the coming weeks because frankly, an SVD as a springer just doesn't feel right. My buddy is basing his off a hammer and firing pin setup ( he likes the feel of a dropping hammer) I'll be taking the easy way out and working on a WE-tech-escort hybrid.

Yea....bout that... Its a little on the pricey side for me

Costing about twice as much as gun + new stock and 4 midcaps.

I'd rather put that money towards something else.

They are cheaper stateside, but another speedbump is the fact I live in CA, where many places don't want to deal with me.

Here is a quick sketch up of the hybrid engine I am thinking of. (Not to Scale)

SVDHybridEngine.png

The Green Nozzle, Purple Pressure Lock , Brass Tube and Light Grey Bolt are from the WE-tech engine.

The Red Airshaft, Neon Green Shaft Collar, and Blue Air switch are from the Escort Engine.

Not Shown; Trigger mech, Bolt carrier inner sleeve, Recoil Spring A&K Bolt, and A&K Hop up.

The Air enters through the brown air fitting, into the air switch. Air then passes down the red air-shaft and into the Dark Green nozzle. After the bb exits the barrel, the Negative vacuum kicks in and air is then redirected backwards.

This blows the Light Grey bolt backwards ( Pulling the outer bolt along with it) along the red air-shaft. When the Light Grey Bolt Hits the Neon Green Shaft Collar, it will pull the red air-shaft backwards out of air input's way and Shuts off the system ( Bolt will also hit a trigger disconnect in the trigger mech).

At this point the Recoil spring ( Not shown, Attached to A&K Bolt) will push the Bolt assembly forward and load a new BB's, restarting the system.

I have most of the parts needed at this point. I will need to turn down an air switch and air shaft to start and then a steel bolt carrier to attach the We-tech's Bolt and the A&K Bolt ( as well as add some weight)
