Looking at sites today and came across a crane style stock from G&P. I haven't heard of this release and I can't seem to find anything on their(G&P)website about it. Any more info would be great. I really like G&P stuff. Thanks - mike

They have it at boomarms too.

Id really like to know what the heck that plastic thing is with the three circles. Im going to assume its the "battery holster" but i really fail to see how that could prevent short circuits.

It appears as though this replica is a copy of the LMT sopmod stock. It looks like it will only house AA style cell's, not the sub-c's like the prime.

Looks like its meant as a buffer to hold smaller packs. THat way it can use the pre-existing 9.6 3300 ones for the prime and CA stock, but also the other stocks 9.6 1700 batteries.

I've got the STAR Special Forces Crane Stock with 10.4V 3000 Ni-CD Battery (OD) (there was one hell of a delay in getting this, so they gave me the better battery smile.gif. Anyhow, back on topic. I'd imagine the three-ring bit is a mounting bracket for the inside of the stock, to properly mount, without rattling, most lengths of the twi-nunchuka style batteries.

I also like the look of the connectors they use - MUCH better than the ones I got with mine. Smaller, look more solid. Good job, I think.

If anyone gets this, please let me know how well it's put together, please!

I've always had nagging questions about the crane stocks. I imagine you have to remove the end cap of the faux buffer tube to get the wires through yes?

Two additional questions;

With the battery in them what's the chances of the wires binding when adjusting the stock pull length and does the stock still retain full adjustability for stock pull with the battery in?

First thing you HAVE to do is re-wire your gearbox to take power from the rear, not the front. If you've a solid stock 16 series, then that's already done for you, of course.

Regarding charging, yeah, it's a real bugger to remove the battery from the stock and reconnect it afterwards, which is why I take the entire stock off, leaving the battery inside, to charge it. The benefit outweighs the inconvenience; I put well over 7500 rounds through my rifle on Saturday (support gunner role), and the battery STILL has loads of charge in it - I've got the 10.4v/3000 mAh version in there, btw.

Regarding wires binding, yeah, it can be a problem if you aren't careful, so my next rifle modification job is to get twin curly cable and better, more solid, connectors. I've got mini-blade connectors in there atm, and they're a right royal pain in the wotsit to hook up.

The stock IS stiff to adjust currently, with the cable I've got in there at the moment, but with the right cable & connectors, I can't see you loosing any adjustability using one at all.

Hope the above helps smile.gif

Redcap? How do you like your STAR stock? Overall I mean. Any large complaints? And if you could be so kind, how is the build material? "Plasticky" or more of a real feel to it. Oh! One more question? Do you need the STAR stock pipe or will any one work? Thanks so much-mike

You dont need the star stock pipe but you do need the washer that goes inside the pipe. It has a flat cut on it that allows the wires to be run through the buffertube. You could use your existing nut if you went ahead and ground down a flat edge onto it.

As far as the star stocks go ill chime in and offer my advice, i hope you dont mind. The star stocks feel very plasticy and they tend to fall apart. I really dont like the build material that they use. Im guessing its straight up abs plastic rather than a polymer based plastic like the prime stocks.

BTW, if you guys are looking for a good quality crane stock, I heartily recommend the new Classic Army ones. I am very pleased with it, and everyone that sees it seems to be very impressed. The best part is that it's alot cheaper than the prime stock.

OK, I've got the Crane Stock in OD, along with the stock pipe as well. You don't need the after-market stock pipe, but it DOES help a great deal, in addition to having an extra position setting hole for the stock itself. It is, as Magzs (no, don't mind you chiming in mate - carry on, lol) points out, a bit 'plasticky', but primarily it was (1) for looks, (2) for the larger battery, and (3) for an easier and more comfortable cheek rest than the normal M4 style stock, that I got the Crane Stock (that, and It's OD green wink.gif).

You DO need that replacement pipe washer, though, as it allows the battery wires to run INSIDE the stock pipe, instead of outside.

In use, I have not found it to fall apart, but if it does, I can always repair it, if it's ABS, as I can get the right adhesives easily enough, with three hobby/model shops close by where I live smile.gif

I own the 3300 9.6 version, lasted me for 4 sessions once. Loads of power. Only issue I had with mine, sometimes the wires would get caught up when recharging, disconnecting, ect... and I would need to re-soder them.
