STAKE MISSION 2005

Stake Mission 2005 was held last Sunday on 31st of July. It’s basically the SWAT Competition but specifically designed for airsoft players. The rules and regulation were changed to reflect several things, mainly we are airsoft player not professional tactical personnel and of course fun is a major factor. The organisers for this event are mostly airsoft shops and tactical equipment suppliers. There were 31 teams in total that came from all over Taiwan. The event was held at a park reserve in the Yong He city of the Taipei County 15-20mins from Taipei City centre. It occupied a mid size football oval and a mid sized baseball field, plus other spaces for sponsors display and team resting areas. P.S there was one team that were all female, this all female team were of course given some extra incentives and rules and regulation were bended slightly to encourage them and for them having the courage to join this competition (No other teams have any slightest objection to the rules being bended). This will hopefully attract more females to join this lovely sport that we all enjoyed which in turned will definitely make this game more enjoyable.

Official website http://www.stakemission.com.tw/ it’s in Chinese only.

There were four stages planned but due to time constraint and the number of teams competing, the event organisers decided to cancel that last of the four stages. The remaining three stages included a speed stage where shooter just speed through and shoot at target, a kill house stage and the most difficult stage was the hostage rescue mission complete with wall and other obstacles.

The stages will be explained in more details later on, I will try to give a simplified version of the rules and regulation, the original being written in Chinese and lengthy.

As one can see the rules are plenty and the organisers did also change some rules on the actual day of the event to the delights of some and to the horror of others. (Most of these rule changes were to reduce confusion in stage procedures, objectives and penalties during the competition, but since it was last minute changes many teams were not able to adapt or improvise the new change to their advantage)

Stage setup

Stage 1, Hostage Rescue
(All weapons must be carried without mags at the start line.)
Team to start by rising a 90Kg log and run to a predefined line, upon dropping the log sniper team will first cross the 2M high wall and proceed to first designated shooting point. Upon the sniper first shot, the entry team will start to cross the wall. Once the any member of the entry team passed the sniper position, the sniper will cease firing until all members have cleared his line of fire. Entry team will proceed through the low obstacle (8 tyres laid on the ground) and arrive at the rifle target. Upon passing the white line entry members can load their rifle and shoot the 4 targets through the 4 windows. Targets must have only 2 holes/markings on each of the paper targets, no more and no less. Once the targets have being engaged all four members must remove mags from their weapons and raise their hand (mags must be stored in drop bags any dropped mag will incur penalty). When all 4 members have raise their hand, the RO will issued “GO” command, on which the entry will move through the high obstacles to the pistol shooting area. The high obstacles are about 1M in height consisting of 4 rectangular iron frame placed together. (Very unstable due to the organisers’ failure to properly secure these to the ground, quite a few competitor fell when the structure move when they were clearing them. My team-mate’s 1911MEU mag well crack wide open when he crashes himself into the edge of the iron frame. This by the way is not the worst casualty, apparently some M4 split in half when his owner was scaling the wall!) Figure 1 shows the high obstacle in drawing, the measurements are from guesstimate as I did not have a chance to measure them. After clearing the obstacles, team will arrive in the pistol area and load their pistol and then shoot the 4 targets. Again only 2 holes/marking on each of the targets. Once all 4 members have clear their weapons (remove mag, place in drop pouch and raise hands) RO will give clear for entry team to rescue the hostage. The dummy hostage was a basically a 27P airmen flight overall filled with sand plus a mannequin plastic/fibre glass torso in the middle. It suppose to weight 60Kg but it felt much heavy as its centre of gravity is not even and the “limbs” were just sand bags so it was difficult to handle. The entry team must then move the dummy hostage back to where they drop the log passing all the obstacles on the way. At this moment the sniper team should have move into sniper shooting area 2 and once all entry member moves out of the sniper team line of fire they can then engage the second target and the bonus target. Sniper team move toward the start to finish stage (sniper team only need to cross one obstacle – the wall)

Once the every member of the team, sniper and entry cross the wall and place their hand on the log with the dummy beside them the timer is then stopped. Item not to scale and not exact.

Stage 2.

Speed shooting, basically the team will divided into 3 groups of 2 members each. Group 1 will start off with weapon unloaded and proceed to rifle shooting area, once there shooter will load weapon and shoot targets. After shooting at target, shooter to remove mag from rifle and raise hands. RO to get “GO” command and they will then more to pistol shooting area, load weapon shoot and remove mag and raise hands. RO to give ”GO” then run back to the start line, group 2 will then repeat this procedure then group 3. Timer stops on last men of last group to pass the start line.

Stage 3. –KILL HOUSE.

Well kill house is overstatement, but it does have a room like space for entry team to enter. Firstly sniper team to move to sniper shooting area and shoots at target and bonus, upon the first shot, entry team to begin assault. Each of the entry team were issued before the start a M203 Master-key modular launcher (this baby shoots not bb shower but a rubber cone shaped head that is capable of being shot outward to 30m – see photo). The entry team member have to launch one of the 2 issued grenades into a designated window, failure to have at least one round into the window will incur penalty, after the two round is fired (in the case of the first failed) RO will issued “GO” then entry will move into the house and put 2 holes/marking on each of the 4 targets. Remove mags and raise hand, RO will issue “GO” entry team to carry dummy hostage back to the start line.
