Beta
Hello! I'm new here, I never thought I'd join another forum, but I guess the itch for a proper outlet of my airsoft ideas was just too strong. My current project is making a CQB weapon out of an M16A2, which certainly isn't the most auspicious choice for small places and tight spaces. Basically I figure no matter how you go about it there are two possible outcomes, a CAR-15/M4 carbine copy or a Patriot copy. Since I could just as easily have bought an M4, then the Patriot becomes all the more alluring. Now I know there are other projects going on here with members trying to create Patriot replicas out of their tired old everyday Armalite variants, but I think I may have something to add in these respects. First of all, I don't care for realism in the action of the gun, the Idea is to turn heads and kick #####, not to read the guidelines and build accordingly. What I'll record here (In the coming week, as the project progresses) will be the inspiration for the project, the design stage, the parts acquired, and their use in the final product, and, of course, the ever changing paint job. Really, I just love to change the color of a work-in-progress four or five times before I finish it, that's just how I am. AnyHoo, here are the ideas. 1. A custom foregrip, no longer than 7.5" (19 cm). 2. A tailpiece, with just enough space to hold a large type battery. 3. An auto-winding box magazine, with at least 2,000-round holding capacity. 4. A belt clip attached to the top of the receiver. The final thought is highly impractical and probably impossible, but I'd also like to figure a way to mount my Mac-11 at least part-way into the foregrip to act as a vertical grip and... well.. a Mac-11. I'd also like to build a laser aiming unit into the forgrip, with an external pressure switch. I'm hungry for Ideas, and need feedback!
Tef
i had a similar ideas, but i gave up because the lack of fund http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/forums/inde...cmd=si&img=2125 the front bit i was going to use a Socom LAM M97 unit. and i was going to use a VN mags because i dont like hi-caps making all the noise while rushing through CQB. also i chose full stock in sead of crane because i) lack of fund, ii) doesnt quite look right. Beta
Well despite working a 12-hour day today (Yes, and it's SATURDAY, but thanks for all the overtime!) I've managed to make some real progress as to the prototype pieces for my Patriot, using some MP5-SD5 parts and a big honkin' cut of PVC piping. Gallery here: http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/forums/inde...album&album=346 I'll keep throwing in pictures as time goes on. The version there with the large tailpiece and black partially painted foregrip is completely skirmishable, if only a prototype. Things I realize need to change!: The Foregrip: Larger, cylindrical (without ridges), and able to hold large battery, so as to be able to shrink down the size of the stock. The Stock: Smaller, only needs to hold fuse, as Battery will be rewired to the foregrip. I still need to finish the body of the box magazine...
Beta
Updates!!! Well since it's Sunday, I've got no work to do, and since I've got no work to do, I've had all day to further my Patriot prototype, and I must say the results have made me very proud. First of all the Foregrip. I've finished all of this with the exception of the paint job, I've run out of flat black. The foregrip holds the large type battery perfectly, and is held very solid, with the aid of a few steel reinforcing bars. This makes it a bit front heavy, but it still feels lighter than the original foregrip and barrel. Next: The tailpiece. The tailpiece is excellent now. I've found a long screw with the same dimensions and thread width as the original that holds the full stock in, and with it and a bit of hardware from around the house, I've gotten the tailpiece held on rock steady. I've rewired the internals of the gun to accept a battery installed in the foregrip rather than in the stock. The gun shoots flawlessly and now screams "CQB ME!!!!" It's fully functional, and I'm very pleased with the sound of the gun, it's like nothing I've ever heard in an aeg, as the inner barrel is recessed into the foregrip about half an inch, so the muzzle noise is a hollow "Bang!", that reverberates throughout the body of the gun and drowns out the motor whine. As it is, it measures 19 1/4" (49 cm) long. http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/forums/inde...cmd=si&img=2584 EDIT: Added picture.
Crandall
Excellent! Now all thats needed is some VN mags, or a C-Mag/Box mag. I really like this a lot! Edit, 1,800th post
Evo
Thats great, now all you need is one to give to me I'd personally add the C-mag for "The Boss" Look, and The fact it turns a Patriot into a Beast.
Beta
Thanks for the comments and support, you interest is greatly appreciated! I'm currently working on installing a modified servo and timing circuit onto the winding cog of the hi-cap magazine shown in the picture. I'll design a custom double-drum-box magazine (Like a beta c-mag, with a short and wide box underneath), whereas the two drums, made from 6" PVC, will hold the bbs and the box will hold the servo and timing circuit. This will probably take the most time, as I've got to buy the 6" PVC and devise a way to wire the gun's battery to the circuit in the magazine without using any external wires. Though as soon as I can afford it I'll pick up some VN mags as well an auto-winding Beta C-mag, for when I'm really itching for that "The Boss" look.
[Apex]
ive read all this thread, and seen all the pics, and woah do i love this gun, and i usually hate armalites! its freaking awesome, and considering you made most of the external add ons yourself, well done! i must admit, it looks better how you did it rather than the mp5sd parts! Kipper
ive gotta say i love armalites and the M16A2 is a gorgeous gun and in my opinon there are soem guns that look awful when butchered or modded out and i think the M16A2 is one of them. In my opinion a nice RDS mebe a bipod and of course a big fat Cmag is all it takes for an M16 to look good but you have me converted. I think this is one of the few times someone has completely changed a gun for the better
Beta
Thanks! That kinda makes my day. There, big fat C-mag, fattest ever made as far as I know. Capacity is (estimated) ~8500 rounds, but I've yet to actually fill it to capacity so... Of course it's pretty heavy with all that sheet metal in the feeding chutes and exterior shell. It's auto-winding with a thumb operated pressure switch under the selector switch, though I'm planning on drilling a small hole in the pistol grip and running the magazine motor in parallel with the motor on the gun, to make it synch-winding. Though I've got until my next skirmish to do that, and it's plenty good as it is. I've just got to get my friend with the sony digital camera here, my $60 digi-cam just can't handle detail. At all. If I can imbed it flush to the foregrip, then a bipod would be pretty nifty.Though my dance card is pretty full right now. Thanks again for your interest and feedback! Beta
Just a quick update. I bought a 10,000-round jar of bbs this afternoon and finally managed to fill the C-mag that I designed for The Patriot, then weighed it, and, well, it's heavy. 9.8lbs-identical-weight-to-the-real-steel-M1-Garand-heavy. But, the upside is that I estimate not needing to refill the magazine for 9-11 months. And I was actually pretty close in my guess on the capacity of the custom C-mag, its actual capacity being ~8,900 rounds. No, I didn't count the 8,900, but rather the 1,100 stragglers that were left in the jar. Now I just need to help fix up my friend's old paintball field and set up a skirmish date. Just as soon as I finish cutting these sheet metal plates for my other project... I need to get a diamond wheel, these standard dremel cutting disks are useless...
