Agreed on the realism thing Tripod. Computer games are games at the end of the day, and designed to be fun, not realistic. I've played other games like America's Army which are impressive visually and in terms of attention to detail, but they lack the same sense of entertainment.

I suppose it's because at the end of the day no matter how realistic a game tries to be, it's simply not the real deal. Some accuracy is great, but accuracy to the point that it makes the game less fun is just pointless. Although in saying that I was the one who was up in arms when they were suggesting at first that the tactical shield AND an rpg would be included...

And sniping with a mac10 / para rules. You all know it.

We're not all the same Foxtrot, and we don't all care for the same sort of gameplay. If everyone liked the same things, life would be even duller than it already is. The Unreal Tournament series never interested me that much, in the same way you clearly don't like CS... ^_^

I have to say I periodically get bored of CS and wind up playing Battlefield 1942 (I have vietnam but that was a bit...dull), but with teaching and all, I often don't play CS enough to get bored of it now. All I know is that it's a game I can pick up and play in the evening with friends, to unwind and have a bit of fun. So really, if it does what I ask of it, then I guess it's perfectly fine for me, just as UT is for you... :D

Cool! Can you really use gnus in CS? I've got to get a copy! Stuff firing bullets at people, throw one of these bad boys at 'em!post-78-1099832737_thumb.jpg

Yes. Not only that, you can also throw a small red and white ball onto the the ground, out of which appears a Gnu. You can then ride this around the level while shouting Dukes Of Hazzard-style "YEEHAW!'s and getting chased by cops.

Yes.

Not saying everything has to be the same - but CS as a game sucks any more, it's decent game play, don't get me wrong. But the servers/admin are complete ######, and the majority of players would be lucky if they could spell their own name twice.

If I want realism, I'll go for the urban servers of Battlefield 1942: Desert Combat, if i want tank/airplane play, I'll go for the larger maps of it. Desert Combat Final is probably one of the best FPS games out - if you don't want fast pace.

Agreed - vietnam.. just isn't all there. Everythings... screwy. Though, I'm putting alot of money on battlefield 2 to SMOKE CS. So far it's looking like it.

Meh, maybe.

I got BF:V after hearing great things about BF:1942 and wasn't that impressed to be honest - I thought it was laggy and the gameplay needed serious tweaking.

To be honest though, how can you compare the BF series to CS? CS is a fast-paced, simple, competitive sport. the BF series is slower, larger-scale and more of a 'fun-time' game you just play for a laugh.

Not sure how you get that.

Play the Desert Combat Final mod for 1942, and you'll see the difference.

The Urban maps for DC are the same pace, if not faster, then CS. So are the tank battle maps - sure it could take for ever to walk around, but thats why you fly, or ride a tank :)

CS is a game that truly can, WILL, consume you, your life and everybody who it touches. For about 2 years i used to play that, and belive me, I was 'Teh RoXXorZZ!!11' but other than that, I had no life, no girlfriend, nothing but the ability to pwn newbs and anybody for that matter. If you really want to know what it is like, I will tell you. For those who dont want there lives to simontaniusly be stolen from them for passably years, shield your eyes!!1 It is a game were you constantly go around and kill *beep*, sounds fun huh? well it is, for about the first few weeks of playing, by that time your judgement of what is fun has completely ROTTED AWAY!! There are the terrorists and the counter terrorists, on some of the maps. or the CS maps you rescue hostages from a extremely cheep area heavily guarded by possibly HaXXorZZZ guys that have no life, or newbs-- AKA terrorists. On the DE maps mainly you have to -DE- as in DEfuse the bomb that a terrorist plants, and will camp on until either you kill him, it explodes and he dies or just the terrorist kill all of the CT dudes. Thats is basically all there is to the game, the average hacker, the guy who is "pro" (has no life) or the newbs... I hope you do not suffer the same fate that most do when playing this game... and if you can, QUITE AND LIVE YOUR LIFE (that means do anything but sit you *albatross* on the chair that your sitting in right now and get up and do something!!!1)

Hehe, yeah myself and Ubar (who's usually lurking the forums somewhere) tend to play Urban maps on DC often. Urban Siege can be great with a co-ordinated team - but that doesn't happen on public servers often... ^_^

I know what you mean about the CS servers. I have the fortune to be good friends with a particular clan though, so I basically am just a semi-regular on their server where the ######wits get banned oh so quickly...and let's face it, cs seems to attract them... :S

Battlefield 2 will be the main reason for me getting a new gfx card next year (I'm fairly happy with my system but that'll force the issue). Oh and STALKER too - which as a fan of russian weaponry I'll no doubt adore...
