I guess people that want a metal G3 dont have to use that craptacular CA reciver now.

Is the CA receiver really that bad?

I was gonna get one for my SG1. It looked OK in the shop. The 2 halves fit together pretty well, anyway.

hang on- surely the lower reciever is just the plastic pistol grip affair? in which case you just need to use the one that came with the TM g3, surely? cocking tube would be nice though...

well its the whole section behind the magwell with the fire selector switch on. If you want a metal receiver, you dont want it to be half plastic :P

I don't think CAs lower reciever is metal though- its the pistol grip/fire selector section, and if its anything like their mp5 range, then its plastic. I believe this to be the case with the real steel, though I'm no expert.

nope the pistol grip is a seperate peice from the lower receiver on a G3

I noticed earlier today on this site there is 2 types of CA g3 receiver listed.

Does anyone know a retailer that carries both? these only seem to be a wholesaler

It may not be as heavy as the original type, but it makes up for it by looking a bit better

ok, someone please provide a link to a manufacturer that makes this elusive "lower reciever" that is distinct from the pistol grip/fire assembly affair, as I don't know of any company, including TM, that do.

I think you'll find find the upper reciever and the pistol grip/lower reciever call it what you will are all you need, and the upper receiver can be metal, whereas the lower receiver/pistol grip is made of plastic.

oh I SEE.... sorry, i thought we were talking about a seperate lower receiver, rather than the whole jazz...my bad.

Which returns us back to the first question- why make one version with a metal lower receiver bit, and then one without? wheres the sense in that? and when has airsoft ever been sensible? and why do I keep asking these questions? who knows? who cares? who wants a beer?

The body of the G3 has three parts.  There is the upper reciever, the lower reciever and then the grip.  From there all other parts are attached.  CA's metal body is clam shell design, where as you cannot slide the two halves apart but rather you must take them apart directly in half.  With the TM body, I can just take off 1 pin and have the front half of the gun seperate from the second half, from there I remove 2 more pins and the stock is off and then the pistol grip.  Once the pistol grip is off you are left with a gearbox inside of a lower receiver, remove the safety selector switch and you can pull out the gearbox.  You then have an upper receiver, lower reciever and pistol grip by them selves.

The picture of the G&G metal body is that of just the upper reciever, a lower reciever is missing.  The pistol grip is plastic yes, but I do not believe you would count that as part of the lower reciever.
