It looks like there's a metal shell in town. How hard would it be to slap in AEG parts and some sort of microswitch to the motor for a unique FA box for custom M2s and the like?

You'd probably have to get custom gears and a motor for it. Might be better off waiting for the complete gearboxes to come out from star, tbh. Might be cheaper than getting all the bits for this.

That said, If you have all the stuff lying around and it wil all fit, then it could be mega. Or, if you want to make your M249 more reliable (and heavier) then is should work a treat.

That takes all normal AEG innards. Short motor is used.

Too bad it doesnt come with the not so easy to come by wiring set up.

Frankly I don't see the point in this. It must exist purely to make money off of ignorent people who think they need a metal gearbox in place of the stock polycarbonate one for some reason.

I'd have to see some compelling evience that the stock one has failed or is likely to fail in a given situation and that this (likely monkeymetal) one is going to be stronger than polycarbonate. And even then there would probably be no reason for me to get it until the stock one has failed. If it's about weight, I doubt it would add much anyway. Besides, I could get that cheaply and more effectivly with some carefully placed lead shot. rolleyes.gif

I think the only reason for this is that Star want to please the "omg-plastix sux- pot metal rUlez" crowd.

I think Star actually reads different forums. There is no doubt that they are aware of the VCR bill situation, the L85 thing came out quite fast, and I suspect that was to get to the british market before the doors close.
