A group of Camel Toads, the largest ever recorded in the UK, have been spotted off the coast of Pembrokeshire.

The creatures were spotted close-up yesterday by a party of marine wildlife experts taking part in the National Toad and Otters Watch Week.

Most sightings of this rare species come from the deep waters of the Bay of Biscay or close to the continental shelf edge in Southern Ireland and the Northern Isles of Scotland.

In Welsh waters, there are rarely more than a couple of sightings of Camel Toads a year and these are generally just solitary animals.

The Camel Toad is second in size to only the Whale Toad, making it the second largest toad on earth. They usually grow to 6-13 inches long and weigh between 4-7 kilograms.
