Furey Posted January 23, 2006 Report Share Posted January 23, 2006 first of all, hello! i'm Furey, im a british squaddie (aircraft tech by trade) posted to PRB in germany at the moment. been an airsoft player for years though ive retired till i get posted back to the uk (didnt play during phase 2 either so its been a while since i was active, so i guess most of you will have never met me). also i was the very first person to post or start a thread on arnies forums, when he first set his awesome website up. thats some old school sheite! i was wondering if anyone on here lives in/ has been to HK? will defo see the big shops when im there, and also would love to play a game. whats your tips on taking whirlwind trip round the airsoft scene over there? any other good places to visit and things to do that i wont see in the brochures? menatarms Posted January 23, 2006 Report Share Posted January 23, 2006 Regarding Airsoft in Hong Kong -- you need look no further than what I termed "Airsoft Central" (not to be confused with "Central" or financial district/downtown on Hong Kong island) located in "Mongkok" district on the Kowloon Peninsula. To get there take the MTR metro and exit "E" and get on to "Sai Yeung Choi" Street. Head towards "Dundas" street, then to "Gwan Wah" street. On Gwan Wah street you will have located "Guns & Guys", "DenTrinity", and "Tokyo Model". Locat at No.1 Gwan Wah Street ground floor of the building, you will find more shops, including Modern Model Company and WAR4. On Dundas Street there is also ARM FORCES shop. Might I suggest lunch or a snack at BOOM ARMS CAFE, an Airsoft themed restaurant that also sells guns & accessories. UNCompany is located on Wan Chai street in "Wan Chai" district on Hong Kong island side; it's a little out of the way AFA being located away from the rest of the AS shops, but you can take the MTR to Wan Chai and get on to Wan Chai street (you may wanna call first for directions from MTR as it is bit of a walk). Tokyo Model on Dunas Street in Mongkok, Kowloon Hong Kong Hong Kong is an excellent place to look for toys as well. If you have kids, nieces, or newphews (or a big kid like yourself). Mongkok also if fully stocked with toy shops. Toy shop located at basement No. 111 Argyle Street: AFA a side trip, something that you won't necessary find on a tourist guide -- I recommend a visit to the HONG KONG MUSEUM of COASTAL DEFENCE at the west end of the blue MTR line on Hong Kong island. The museum gives you a history of the colonial days and the onset and aftermath of the Japanese invasion in WWII. Hong Kong Museum Guide Lastly, it's a little over-priced and a little small -- but if you haven't done the Disneyland thing -- you can have access to the experience in Hong Kong. I love HK, so convinient. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Don't forget Modern Model Company; that's in Mong Kok too. Just get the MTR to the Yau Ma Tei stop, and use the A2 exit to get out of the station. As soon as you get up to street level, you should see a road to your left and shops to your right. Go round the small fence and go along the small side-street (it's directly to your left once you get up to ground level) and you'll then come out onto a main street. Turn right onto that street and cross the road onto the left-hand pavement. Keep going straight up that street and you should come across a whole host of airsoft shops. Also, there's a shop that specialises in airsoft gear, with all the major brands stocked. Retrace your steps to the small side-street (that takes you back to the MTR exit), but just before you turn into that small side-street, go back towards all the other airsoft shops, but this time on the right-hand pavement. On your right, there should be a shiny and glassy shopping-centre/tower-block. The shop with all the airsoft gear is on the 18th floor. Link to post Share on other sites

bronney Posted January 23, 2006 Report Share Posted January 23, 2006 Maps that compliments Pave Hawk's instructions as attached. And don't buy anything until you've had a good look at EVERYTHING. When you're in Mong Kok (MK), the stores are pretty obvious and usually the "brighter" a store is, the better it is. Make sure you walk INSIDE Yan On Building as that's where modern model is, and 2 nice gear shops. The owners are pretty ok and I always have a good chat with them. Supreme Co however is not that obvious. As you can note their addy right on the first page: http://www.supremeco.com.hk/ It's on Dundas. Just follow the MK map it's before you get to my crosshair on the right. 18/F. They sell all the blackhawk and ipsc stuff. Very nice camelbak collection also. Dentrinity is also not obvious as their sign's weird. When you get there just as people where "Tung Kung" is. It's 3 shops away from Classic Army. The other map's where UN Co. is. And right across, close by back to the west, you should see a store that sells birds, and next to it bikes. There's another store called M-1 that recently moves there in the 2nd floor. They got some nice copied camos so if you're in for cheap, they got it. For games, PM anyone of us with a HK flag and we'll see if we got games, try to tell us a week before you arrive so we can look out for schedule. === How long are you staying btw, might not even have time to go anywhere with the airsoft craziness haha. carbacca Posted January 23, 2006 Report Share Posted January 23, 2006 once you are out of the MTR at yau ma tei station if you got a keen nose try and sniff out a strong sense of raw sewage....reason being there is a few shops selling "stinky tofu" on dundas street, and once you;ve found dundas street you have found kwong wah street....also there is a rubbish depot on dundas street as well so just follow the unpleasant smells and you will get there!! i was just in HK recently..bought most of my stuff at MMC, cos they take credit card with only a 2% charge, most of the others are charging 3-3.5% i dont recommend going to RW since they are waaay out in chang sha wan, basically not close to the other shops at all....and you will find all you ever want in kwong wah anyways the building that supreme co and WGC is in is called "Park-In Building", its got a nice lobby. supreme co is on 18th floor, very nice show room selling blackhawk and 5.11 tactical and surefire stuff, but very $$$$$. they also seem to only have system training weapons. also some IPSC stuff and custom guns. WGC is in 15th floor of the same building, although u will have to take the lift all the way back down to get there Link to post Share on other sites

So much information, I think w've got another Hong Kong thread! w00000T!!1!! As for languages, just speak slow english. And you'll be fine. Be nice, buy loads, and hopefully get a discount. True story. -------------- When you can - PM the Hong Kong arnie members your itinerary, i.e. Mon 1 May BA0025 - so somebody can be ready to meet up at airport or train station/tube. The public transport in Hong Kong is very good, train/underground right next to airport. Bus and taxi pretty much run all the time. It'll be great if someone can give you a lift and all, that'll save you buying tickets and everything. But we use a travel swipe card that works on just about every mode of transport. You can even use vending machines with the Octopus card, and not worry about jammed coins. Make sure you lift the international bar on your mobile phone too. My wife's sister and brother live there. I've been 5 or 6 times, back in the early 80s, when I was Cabin Crew on longhaul(don't laugh, it's a long story). Did Airsoft even exist then? I'm selling one of my motorbikes to fund an Airsoft spending-spree while I'm there, how much (percentage-wise) should I allow for import duty/VAT, etc? Thanks for all the useful info... billymak Posted January 23, 2006 Report Share Posted January 23, 2006 if you bring stuff back home on your person, and get it all checked by airport security, it won't cost you a penny/dime/yen etc Unless they have reason to believe that you're a wholesaler - like you've just checked in with 3 crates of AEGs etc. But most people just bring a couple guns and some parts, and it never causes anybody problems. Just explain to the airport check in staff that it's toy guns, and let them ask the questions. Please make sure you read up on the carriage policy of your airline of choice. Every company is slightly different. Some will have no problem with airsoft cargo, some will need some sort of a police/security check. Don't wait til the last minute to check in. Procedures may have changed since the last time I had a run in with ADU (Airport Duty Unit, ex-SDU'ers). But the thing you want to avoid is not telling anyone that you have Airsoft guns in your luggage, Because once checked in -- your bags are x-rayed before they are boarded. But once you are on-board -- they will call you down to the tarmac and meet with ADU to go over your luggage together and fill out the necessary false alarm forms. 2 cents. Nine times out of ten the listed price is not actually what the sellers give it for, especially to exploitable westerners. Electronics in the Tsim Sha Tsui district. Do NOT be exploited. Make sure you do Temple Market in Kowloon. Same advice applies there. You get some great bargains there - the hardest thing is stopping haggling after you get back to the UK! I'd kinda thought it had all but stopped now, I'm sure there was a post on a topic a while back from someone who basically said not to bother. Worth a try I suppose. Do you think it would help to have my sister-in-law along? She's been in HK for over 12 years now and speaks cantonese fairly well I think.
