The problem is they spit out water and BBs if it goes of too close to someones AEG water could get into the motor and cause a short, or get into the battery compartment and cause short.

You need to be pretty unlucky to get your AEG broken by that little amount of water and it actually getting into the right places for things to short circuit.
I have had most of my AEGs out and running in heavy rain at day long skrimishes and none of them have taken any damage by that.
the battery pack is close to water proof, you really need to soak it alot to ruin it.
most of the parts that are sensitive to water is protected fairly well against water aswell.

but yes, it would be better if they could have used gas or something else.. not evryone likes to get wet
