It must be the result of the recent tragedy in which one kid aimed an airsoft pistol to a swat officer and got himself killed. I live right next to Florida. I hope the ban doesn't spread cross the state line.

This is bad, I don't think it will pass but who knows with the recent incident in Florida. I'm with Captain on this.

I say airsofters move closer together and then declare independance, dont have to worry about bans then.

This is an unfortunate attempt to ban airsoft for one persons stupidity.

This is the exact reason that the South East Aisoft Organization (www.seasg.org) has been working to get members together in the last year in order to create a large enough group that we can show the public (and politicians) that these isolated incidents are nothing more than just that. That airsoft in teh ahnds of a responsible individual is nothing more than a hobby and poses no threat.

If this actually gets to a vote you can be assured that the SEA will be fighting it tooth and nail.

As for NRA sponsorship, yes we can get it, but we have to have a large enough organized group to make it happen They won't sponsor random small teams or little kiddies playing with springers, only an organized and responsible group with a valid Not-For-Profit Corp that can back up their membership. As the president of the SEA this year I have been trying to get memebrs in this area motivated to join and shape the future of airsoft in the lower states but it has been almost pointless since they would rather be little kings in their little kingdoms than work together and acheive a rel goal. Maybe this kind of an incident will get some mroe motivation to get off their butts, quite playing CS, and work to sway these politicians' opinions by showing them a regular organization that can police it's own members to the point that the government has no need to interfere.

Granted this bill will not likely pass since Florida is one of the few states that it is legal to own a full auto machine gun, but this can seriously cause us a headache in the future. Any time a bill is introduced it makes it easier the second time around, then the third until the idea becomes so natural to them that they almsot believe that it is right.

Now for the recruiting, if you are interested in helping us fight this blatant attack on our rights then join the SEA and help us get this under control!

It's obviously related to that dumb ass kid. Quite frankly, he deserved what he got, especially since his actions might end up biting so many law-abiding airsofters in the ass.

Good luck to the local and regional organizations lobbying the Florida state Senate. The collective US airsoft community is behind you.

Remember, Florida has pretty good laws regarding gun owners rights and self-defense. And at least it's a Red state. It is likely that more support can be garnered to oppose an airsoft ban, as opposed to in a place like Illinois.

I was thinking the same thing for MA, cause as we all know most people in politics (especially the left) absolutely hate dealing with those guys because they cause so they cause so much commotion. It might just worth checking into that. I mean geez... our guns don't even kill people, but they want to ban them... and yet they are going to be keeping the real ones!?!?!

The only problem I see is the bad publicity they have gotten in the media, and from Michael Moore's propaganda films, which perhaps could actually hurt airsoft's reputation.

Hey, I live on the Illinois side of STL, dont give them any ideas, they seem pretty proficient in mucking things up as it is. dry.gif

I sincerely hope that this trend does not continue in the US. But, i unfortunatly see that their are many left wing politicians in this country that would most likely be thrilled to sponsor a bill of this nature.

Does anyone know anything about who proposed the Bill?

i'm all for supporting you fellow airsoft players in the usa as we are going through a similar problem in england at the moment, good luck to all airsoft players in the usa who are looking at a stupid ban on a really good sport that gets people off the streets (exept for urban games) and give you exercise at the same time

Actually, you say that but i think Japan is thinking of enforcing the 1j limit. Not a ban i know but its still cracking down on airsoft.

please, let's care about US instead of Japan for now, and Japan won't ban airsoft due to large population of airsofters

God forbid it ever spreads to Ohio. That's where the majority of us airsofters are.

So airsoft will become illegal while you can legally own a firearm and purchase one from your local store? I thought us Brits were nuts!

Seriously guys, good luck with this; knee-jerk reactions by politicians never solve problems. Try to educate the politicians through mature, reasonable arguments. Whatever you do, don't stoop to their level and react with headline grabbing, sensationalist comments. We may not have won the battle over here, but we're doing it with dignity and sensibility, so we cannot be decried as being a bunch of loony gun nuts. Still, they haven't met me yet...

By the way my American brethren, aluminium is pronounced al-ee-oo-min-ee-um.

This is seriously not cool. I mean...just...no. And yet I just got a .22 rifle for Christmas and that's totally OK, and my neighbor's BB gun (which CAN cause bodily harm, and looks like a lever-action Western rifle) is legal. Err!?

EDIT: Idea! This is an excellent excuse for me to buy an MP7 right now. As in, right this moment. biggrin.gif
