TsohG
From the Tippmann site: Tippmann Enters Airsoft Category with Heavyweight Products 2/9/2006 BUFFALO GROVE, IL - FEBRUARY 9, 2006 - Tippmann Sports, the leading manufacturer of high-performance paintball products, has entered a new and increasingly popular category with the company's first-ever line of Airsoft guns and accessories through a strategic alliance with Palco Sports. Tippmann's initial, well-rounded Airsoft offering includes a complete line of Tippmann branded, spring-operated pistols and rifles, CO2 and "green gas" powered pistols and automatic electric rifles (AEG Technology). The company is also introducing a number of high-quality accessories, including a target, replacement magazine and a new line of BBs, which will be marketed under the Straight Shot™ name. "Entering the Airsoft category was a natural extension for us," said Patrick Ehren, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Tippmann Sports. "Palco's 10 years of experience in the Airsoft category and their desire to partner with Tippmann to accelerate new product development in the category made the relationship a logical alliance. The Tippmann name has been synonymous with quality craftsmanship and performance since we started in paintball 20 years ago. Now, we're excited to leverage our industry-leading paintball experience by introducing a line of products to the growing number of Airsoft players around the country." Tippmann's new Airsoft guns are expected to appeal to players of all skill levels, but especially existing players seeking a durable upgrade with enhanced features. All of the company's premium, heavyweight pistols and rifles are easy to operate, true to scale, feature a high rate of fire and utilize the Flatline Hop-Up System for longer, straighter shots. "We think Airsoft players will be impressed by the combination of durability, feel and value they find in Tippmann products," Ehren added. "Plus, we're hopeful that we'll be able to help elevate the category by building awareness and generating excitement for Airsoft at the grassroots level. Long term, we'd like to bring experienced players together more often while providing newer players additional opportunities to discover this great game." Airsoft products from Tippmann Sports will be available at paintball specialty and sporting goods outlets beginning in April 2006. The company's new line of guns will carry a variety of price points ranging from $24.95 for a spring-powered pistol to $149.95 for a full-size AEG rifle. BakaBox
Sounds like ######, really. And what's Palco? They'll be feeding springer kiddies, and if their "top of the line" models are $150, we can't expect much.
Jonathan
I think this will help airsoft become more accepted in the US and less vulnerable to attack.
NamantH
if i remember correctly... I heard that at the shot show they had either BE or UTG gun on display at thier stand... but dont quote me on that, this is second hand... so it may be wrong... was someone there that can chime in on this. Gene
This might be good for airsoft. Paintball gas technology is quite advanced, so maybe in the distant future we might be getting some really good gas guns, both long and handguns. Just a thought.
blokhed
I think this is great news. As was already stated, Tippman is an established American brand that will help airsoft gain more recognition and credibility. Plus, they do make high-quality paintball products, so there is no reason at this point to expect any less from their airsoft line. They know what's out there, what their competition is, so it should be easier for them to create guns of competitive quality and price. I can't wait to see what they make. DrewLawson
I'm hoping for more gas rifles with external hoses. That actually work and have hicaps.

Also, Tippmann has just come out with a propane powered paintball gun that gets 50,000 Paintballs out of every 16 OZ tank!
richie_j
there are some PB guns that are VERY close to looking like proper guns. I've seen a g3a4 and a thompson in PB form, and if they release an airsoft version of these, people would be offering to give tippmann their kidneys to have one.
El_Hombre
Yeah, Tippmann is a very good company, from what I've heard. I'm glad this isn't Brass Eagle's springer kiddie POS airsoft line.
airsoftNY.com
Sorry to say that Tippmanns entries into Airsoft are nothing more than repackaged guns. The ones on display at the Shot Show included the BE Xm8 and some various other manufacturers guns that were repackaged in Tippmann packaging. I believe they also had some Double Eagle, Well, and Wingun products. Basically the same stuff Palco markets. Jeff

Jules
Yep, it just looks to me like they're taking the Leapers route and jumping on the rebranded chinese-made AEG bandwagon.
Duke Togo
They are just putting their name on lpegs for a quick buck. I highly doubt they will have anything to do with design, engineering, manufacture or anything else regarding airsoft. This is just a way to get a piece of the airsoft market. All of the so-called airsoft brands in the sub $100 range are made by one or two companies and just re-branded with different packaging. Most of the surplus stores and sporting goods shops carry dozens of these in different colors and brands, but they are all the same. It will help airsoft in the US, many people will see them as these cheap toys and not be threatened by them. If more people knew that "real" airsoft guns can get upgraded to high levels, then you will see the backlash against it. With these cheapos everywhere, your full-metal CA M15 will be dismissed as a $40 Wal-Mart special.

Sorry, but gun-haters are gun-haters, be it NERF guns, cap guns, or anything else.
Slade xTekno
As a former paintballer, I can tell you Tippmann is known for making very reliable and solid paintball markers at an entry-level price. If it simply repackages AEGs, it risks compromizing its reputation. EDIT: Lol, I just noticed that they tacked on "Flatline" to the name of the "Hop-Up" system.
Rapier
All I know is if they try and use the flatline system to provide hop up they will tank on this line of guns.
chatham
FWIW, Palco does list some TM AEGs on their website, along with every low end gun you can think of.
TehLlama
Hmm.. I thought this might be good -- no. Brass Eagle marketing Cybergun rubbish, andnow Tippman marketing rubbish (no doubt w/out their customer service, which is nice)... Airsoft in the US will get big, but these are such peices of shiite.... I don't want airsoft to get too big, because opening the market to Wal-Mart tards is asking for repeats of the shooting incident like the one in Florida. PS: The only guns that might look even close w/ a .68 paintball would be a Barret/Armalite .50 Cal (I'd love to have a PB AR-50) or Barret XM-109 Payload rifle.
Slade xTekno
All I know is if they try and use the flatline system to provide hop up they will tank on this line of guns. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The airsoft "Hop-Up" and paintball "Flatline" achieve the same end of providing backspin on the ammunition. Since paintballers [Tippmann's primary audience] don't know what "Hop-Up" is, their trademark "Flatline" name is attached.
Glenn
I'd love a REAL Tippman designed and manufactured gun, but I doubt thats what we're getting. Unfortunately, the more springers on shelves, the more springers in the hands of children, and the more states working on banning MY game:G
TehLlama
But bear in mind that because paintballs are so inconsistent, the flatline system honestly sucks balls (paint is round enough, weight distributed well enough, and size QC isn't good enough, so the flatline barrels actually reduce accuracy a LOT more than hopup in an airsoft gun)

pbayers
this is going to change airsoft in the us forever. it will gain recognition so there will be more feilds to play at, and more local stores. however i wouldnt be suprised if the gun haters try to pass laws to ban or require airsoft gun registration, and require those guns to be made of clear orange plastic. then the hippies will try to make us use biodegradeable bbs. if tippman decides to make their own guns they will probably be subpar, however tippman will probably just repackage chinese guns slap on a logo and double the price. but this means that when fields start poping up we with the real airsoft guns can go down there and school all the tweens with their lpegs. so fun all around. bullet_magnet
this is terrible for airsoft, all its gonna do is bring the snotty paintball crowd more over to us, soon our milsim game will turn into an inflatable Iraq. If a paintball company is going to market airsoft they're gonna play it like paintball and ruin it and bring this game closer to paintsoft
