It definitely gives a good impression of the sport, but some people are very against airsoft becoming more popular. Personally, I think a little growth could help, but not paintball type popularity.

Exactly, so why does it need to be called a "mercenary loadout" :P

Why can't it be more like, "I don't care for this geardo bull, so I just wear what I want"?

It's refreshing to hear a possitive responce from this great sport in the news, its just a shame that there has been so much bad press as of late. I would like to see this sport becoming more popular only to the point where these anti-airsoft bills start to settle down a bit, but I don't really want the sport to get to be like paintball either - You know its gonna get scary when you see someone on ESPN with a plethora of different company patches covering up his camo playing airsoft.

Nice report, we just need something similar on BBC Newsor something to let people see the same thing, instead of tarring us with the old 'danger to society' brush.

"Most airsoft BBs are standard plastic pellets; others can be starch-based biodegradable, metal-coated, graphite-coated (often used by snipers) or steel"

me thinks they need to update this as it's a little inacurate, all bb's that airsoft use are a plastic type and none are "steel"...

Other then that a pretty good report.

Well I have heard of steel bbs here in the Philippines but as far as I know its not being used in airsoft games...

---------------

By the way the statement on the report was editted, and could be originally from Wikipedia's airsoft article...I think the writter is trying to put some bad raps to the sport in a discreet way...hmmm

below is a part of the whole article
QUOTE
Some 6 mm plastic airsoft pellets. (Note the edges on the sides of the pellets, indicating that they are not of the best quality)Airsoft pellets are typically made of plastic and are almost always 6 mm (5.98 mm) diameter spheres. Pellets of a given size come in different weights ranging from 0.12 to 0.43 g. In addition to standard plastic pellets, starch-based biodegradable, metal coated, graphite coated (often used by snipers), and steel pellets are also available. Pellets other than 6 mm, 0.12 g, 0.20 g, or 0.25 g plastic or biodegradable pellets are not commonly used outside of Japan. To use 0.43 g BBs, a player need a powerful Airsoft gun or an upgrade to their current gun.

Glow-in-the-dark tracer pellets are also used in conjunction with a special device that "charges" the pellets up by flashing them with a quick burst of UV light prior to firing so that they remain luminescent in flight for use during nocturnal games/operations.

Tracer BBs have been made that leave a white streak along the BB's path while it's airborne. This enables a player to see where his or her balls are landing, which helps accuracy.

There have also been guns made that shoot aspherical pellets. The best known of these is the Asahi "Blade Bullet", which are now extremely difficult to find and quite expensive to buy. These were designed to be shot from the short-lived Asahi M700 and M40 premium grade rifles, which were produced in 1993. Compatibility with other airsoft guns is highly limited, especially due to their incompatibility with hop-up features.

Paint pellets are available but are incompatible with guns with hop-up features as the hop-up will break the pellet in the gun. Paint is very unpopular with airsofters because it tends to stain both gear and clothes.
