TM P226 taken apart

Takedown lever: First, field strip the gun. Then turn the takedown lever to horizontal position and push it out: The safety will actuate and it will click. There's a retainer which needs to be pulled back with a small screwdriver to get the takedown lever fully out.

Decocker: Remove left grip panel, remove spring, remove decocking lever.

Trigger: After removing the takedown lever, remove the hex screw underneath it. Remove right grip panel (in addition to the left one and the decocker), push the two firing mechanism pins out from the right to the left, lift out firing mechanism. After this you only need to unscrew the phillips screw holding the trigger housing and it can be removed. With plastic frames you need to pry the frame apart to get it out, just like getting the blowback mechanism out of a plastic slide. The slide lever comes out with the trigger mechanism.

For the magazine release you need to pull a tab straight up (it's in the front wall of the magazine well, right behind the trigger). If you switch the sides or put the pieces into a metal frame, you also need to unscrew a small countersunk screw from the right side and remove the protective panel.

Well said.

From extensive experience, I will warn you to be careful of flying springs. When you remove the right grip, the trigger bar spring near the top may fly (most of the time, though, it just sits there.) When you pull out the firing (hammer) assembly, there is a small spring on the left side that likes to pop out. It's under that little silver triangle that sticks up just above the left frame rail (the one for the slide, not for lights). Likewise, there is a popper on the left side of the trigger assembly. There are a few others if you take either of these assemblies apart, but that's another discussion.
