Sadly, I've let this thread slide. To make up for it, I shall soon be reviewing the mighty MAASTERPIECE OPTIMUS PRIME. Will it live up to my frankly unreasonable expectations? Will it be worth the cash? Will I be so impressed I start selling airsoft stuff to buy the other Masterpiece releases? Keep watching, folks.

Because they're the same person. Rodimus prime is what hot rod became after he took charge of the matrix of leadership.

But rodimus prime and hot rod look different.

The toy of rodimus shown is alot more like HotRod than Rod Prime

I have both g1 toys, hotrod was a car, the rodimus prime toy was a bit pants though, as all it was was a 180 flip for a head and body, but the legs stayed still and sliiped into a trailer with huge f-off gun.

if sledge is the TF head we know then his biggest model should be Unicron.

that or Devistator which if i remember was pretty damned big.

i always had a special place for the dinobots myself.

oh and stan bush's 'Dare' and 'nothin's gonna stand in our way' by spectre general. the 80's rocked man.

Biggest at the moment is probably Metroplex or Jetfire, both of whom are a little bigger than the gestalts. However, Masterpiece OP stands at a little over a foot tall, so should dwarf pretty much everything. Didn't get round to getting Unicron yet, but I'm keeping an eye on e-Bay.

I got to meet Gary Chaulk which also did the voice of Optimus Prime, Scott McNiel which did the voice of Waspinator, and Alex Willows who played Tranchulas at Mechacon 2.0 two weeks ago in Lafayette Louisana. Also got to meet Keivn McKeever from Robotech.com which did a special showing of Robotech Shadow Cronicles

When they had the meet and greet panael I was working security for the con.

Heres a pic of Gary and Uncle Alex, as we were told to call him lol

I remember when i was about 5, and i went to a car-boot sale, and bought loads of g1's. But i left behind a omega supreme and a superion!

And i also remember not convincing my folks to buy a NEW g1 fort max when it was new out!

So now, anything like re-relases of TF's im buying!!!

Depends how you define "best". Do you want something simple for a young child (there's a range of junior TFs), something for the older child, or a true collectable for the grownups. For the kids, the Cybertron line is looking pretty good. For the adult collectable, it HAS to be Masterpiece Optimus Prime. Accept no substitute.

woot, loving mine! I got every Optimus Prime available, including the bat one they did a while back!

As promised, a review of Masterpiece Optimus Prime (MP OP). First of all, I should mention, this is the Japanese release, so has longer smoke stacks than the Western release, and also doesn't have the finish-spoiling "battle damage" that looks so wrong to me. Now, on with the show.

This is the toy I've been waiting most of my life for. A totally accurate toy of Optimus Prime as he appeared in Transformers: The Movie, kicking tailfins and laying the mechanical smack down.

Now, a few people have already asked how it compares size wise to earlier Transformers. Well, here's a couple of photos, first with the Constructicon and Combaticon gestalts, Devastator and Bruticus, then with an original Optimus Prime.

Ok, ok, those are actually Worlds Smallest Transformers featuring with MP OP. For a better idea of scale, check these out:

As well as the tiny Prime, there is also a battered G1 Prime (with Ultra Magnus parts used for repairs), Jazz, Laser Rod/Battle Convoy Prime, a Robots In Disguise Prime, Robot Masters Prime, Armada Scourge (a repaint of Combat Hero Optimus Prime) and an Alternators Smokescreen. MP OP is built to about the same scale as the Alternators.

To be continued...
