Unlimited Ammo
Does anybody know if an S10 british army gas mask would withstand an AEG shot as i was thinking of wearing one for my next skirmish. cheers
joeking27
It might do. They're not made to the ballistic standards though. Best to try the idiot test beforehand.
Hissing_Sid
Geez, somebody should sticky this. It comes up about once a week. The S10 gasmask lenses have no CE or BSI markings so, officially, they aren't impact resistant. Tests carried out by airsofters (including R22) have showed that they easily repel BBs though. Unlimited Ammo
oh good i'll were one but if i come back blinded it's your faults lol just kidding cheers
doc_newstead
I 2nd the 'idiot test' idea. Why chance it out on the field? If like me, your resi is a nice new one and you don't want to find out that it's rubbish against BB's, buy a cruddy one from a surplus store and test that. If it works, great. If it breaks, at least you still have your nice one for impressions/running around the house in
Unlimited Ammo
cheers Doc i think i'll take your advice and buy a crappy one and test it cheers
Eddie182
Why would anyone voluntairily run about in a respirator? I simply don't get it.
joeking27
Full face thats look pretty good.
WarMonger
the problem with gas masks is that they terribly restrict your visibility. and it gets in the way when your trying to get your face down against your stock when aiming. they may look cool, but it totally sucks playing with one. Un_FriendlyFire
You realise that IRL NBC suits reduce a soldiers effectivenes by something like 60% i believe....Why bother? And its sweaty and hard to breathe, hard to see, you feel claustrophobic (well i do)...just why? Your choice dude
Eddie182
My point exactly Un_Friendly fire. I'd say more like 80%, especially in summer. Not saying don't do, after all, it's your kit U'_Ammo. Just wonder why. Trust me after 8 hours in full NBC 4 Romeo, running around like a blue arsed fly, digging holes etc etc. I'd be glad never to see the stuff again. It's unpleasent just doing annual NBC training. Let alone using the stuff when I'm out to have a laugh. But as I said, whatever floats your boat. Thinking about putting on a rubber face mask and half suffocating yourself may even border on perverse you know. (I wish people wouldn't call them gas masks. It's a respirator. Yeah I know I'm picky)
Unlimited Ammo
maybe i wont use a gas mask then i think a pair of U.S. military goggles would work better cheers
WarMonger
much much much better
Un_FriendlyFire
Get some Land warrior goggles. Our lot use them as well so you can be authentic too lol
WarMonger
i use a JT delta facegaurd, its new, they started making some airsoft stuff, it still protects your nose and mouth, and has rubber ear protectors, but its not as bulky as a paintball mask, you can still get down on the gun and aim with it. cost me 20$
1000_mile_stick
Has anyone tried using UK or US kevlar helmets, with those dirty great riot visors attached (I am lacking knowledge on the proper name)? I mean in NZ, you can buy real US/UK kevlar helmets, that are like $50 cheaper than the fake airsoft ones, so it seems logical you could get hold of one of those visor sets to go with it... I saw a prison riot helmet the other day... and this little fireproof number!!! So many choices... *cough*
Lance Jackass
Aswell as the idiot test i think that respirators will vary over time. I think the rubber or lenses become weaker as they age from what ive heard. So you may have to carry it out a few times over its life span if thats true.
Vindicare
I'll agree with what everyone says. They are disgusting to wear after some time. I've done the NBC drills and exercises in it, and it's not pretty. Sweat and DKP2 powder EVERYWHERE! *shudder* That being said I've used a respirator before. They work fine, just the breathing issues and sweat to contend with. Although the look of fear on your enemy's face when you storm a room with a ressie on is nice to see!
