Looks nice, and fairly reasonably priced too.

I'm sure it's high quality, but I question the durability of a v2 mechbox in a SAW application.

It was probably done because the V2 is the only gearbox G&P produce, however I agree, a version II is not suited to a support weapon.

Very nice, I wonder if you could fit a CA or STAR M249 gearbox in it...

Hopefully this means the functional PEQ units aren't too far behind.

They make a V3 too, so that can't be the reason.

If you sandwich a gearbox securely inside the receiver of the weapon, the risk of cracking should be reduced a lot. We'll just have to wait until someone gets his hands on this thing and dissects it.

The feed mech seems alot better on the G&P than on, say, the TOP and CA models.

The price is cheap enough, so if this thing has a steel receiver, I might consider it. The ver.II mechbox does reduce the usability though.

I actually want one of these. My bet is that it externally is gonna be the best looking M249.

Good point, I completely forgot about their aftermarket 7mm V3 gearboxes, so it begs the question, why?

I can't see this taking any market away from the CA, especially given the prices are around the same.

Maybe if it looks the best of the bunch, one could add the Haynes milspec mechbox to it. Looking forward to a review.

And not to mention that particular model looks HIDEOUS in my opinion. Id keep my CA M249 Mk1 one anyday over that one.

eek! that thing is almost 22 pounds (10 kilos for all you brits out there), so anyone small better not buy one or they'll be in trouble. Pretty interesting though, a full metal M249 to compete with CA.

22 pounds? Thats heavier than the real thing unloaded! Its a rather ugly looking SAW if you ask me, adn the price tag doesn't fit what you get, in my opinion.
Got Glock!?

22 pounds/10 Kgs is perfectly fine as the real thing loaded with a 200 round belt is around 12kg. Not to mention the extra belts you need to carry to feed the monster.

I still have my CA249, and thats plenty of weight for me.

Where did you find that info?

http://world.guns.ru/machine/mg17-e.htm

Here it sais 7.1 kg which is what the CA weighs if I'm not mistaken.

The real M249 weighs around the 7,1kg mark UNLOADED. Add a 100 round belt to that and you're getting close to 9-10kg, depending on what type of ammunition you're using.

G&P wins the award for the ugliest M249 variant ever.
It's hard to believe they intentionally tried to make a gun look like this.
And I am a fan of G&P guns.

I too am really surprised that they went with the V2 instead of the V3.
Don't really understand the thinking there, unless they have a deal going with MTHaynes :-)
