Backstory
When my CA M15A4 proved to be nothing but a lemon, I decided that I needed a functioning primary. It had to be reliable and usable out of the box, but I didn't want an Armalite or MP5. This left me with Tokyo Marui, and I immediately settled on the AK47. It wasn't too expensive, was definetely durable, and had that unique, rugged look that only an AK47 can bring.
I went ahead and ordered from Poweredge USA along with a bag of Excels and a spare Marui lowcap. Shipping was a tad expensive, but that's for another review.
Initial Impressions
I could hardly stand it when my AK arrived in it's big cardboard box. I rushed it upstairs, opened the box, and drooled. There lay my new AK47, in all it's plastic and metal glory, neatly tucked away in it's styrofoam home along with a magazine, barrel cover, cleaning rod, and BB loader. I knew the wood and lower reciever were plastic, but you could never tell unless you touched it. I lifted it up and was surprised by the weight. 2900g according to the manual, 1000g under the real thing. I wiggled the stock, sights, front end, and handgrip, and all of them were very solid. The rear sights and handgrip had a little bit of play, but nothing very noticable. I would not recommend holding the gun only by the handgrip, however, it definitely seems that the sheer weight would cause it to weaken dramatically.
From other reviews, I knew that the screws on the stock tended to work themselves loose, so I took a screwdriver, tightened them up, and wrapped them in masking tape until I could get some threadlock.
Performance
Wow. First off, the AK47 makes a different sound than any other AEG i've heard. The motor can hardly be heard, and the pop as the BB is ejected is clear, yet almost muffled at the same time. Does that make any sense? No, probably not. It just has to be heard in person. On automatic, the ROF with my no-name, 8.4v 1700MAh battery is incredible. I would estimate something on the higher end of the 900rpm spectrum. It's fast, very fast. Even with extended bursts, the motor and gearbox seem to do just fine, it doesn't feel like it's straining at all. I want to stress just how smooth the action is, the motor and the gearbox working together make hardly any noise compared to the rough whizz and pop of my M15A4. It's perfect harmony, and it's beautiful. The FPS is just what you'd expect from a stock Marui, about 280, and it can fly right through both ends of a shoebox from 10-15 feet away. Accuracy is also what you'd expect for a stock gun. The BBs go where you point, and that's it. An AK in a nutshell.
I'd also like to mention that the hop-up is an ingenious and very well-designed part. Its a slider, and won't work out of place like the rotary hop-ups found on MP5 and AR15 style guns.
Upgradability
This is a Marui. As such, you won't be able to take it above 1J (328 FPS) without reinforcing some key parts like the spring guide, bushings, and gears. Even when you upgrade to 1J, I would personally recommend installing reinforcement parts just to prolong the life of your gun. I plan to keep mine stock, but what you do is your choice
With an AK47, there's not much in the way of external upgrades. Sure, you can slap on a wood or metal kit, and maybe an optic, but that's about as far as it goes, unless you want to pay big money for a Guarder conversion kit. The AK74su is beautiful, but just so darn expensive..
Anyways, there are RIS rails and those sort of things, but personally I feel that it would ruin the look of the AK47. If you want a flashlight, just duct tape it on! Authentic style and suits the AK perfectly.
Conclusion
The AK47 is an all-around great weapon. Strong, reliable, rugged, unique and functional. For those who love to stand out and play hard, the AK is for you. Happy 'softing.

All the reviews of the AK-47 out there pretty much all sound the same. They say the gun is excellent with few external upgrades. You bought an AK for the AK look so why are you looking for external upgrades at all?
This review is going to be short and sweet so listen up.
1. The gun is much better than the CA m15's, m16's and mp5's that I play with. This includes performance and reliability. Yes the fps on Tokyo Marui gun is less than the CA guns, but the AK has better range than the guns I just mentions so that isn't an issue.
2. The gun looks AWESOME. The pictures I saw of it on the internet don't do justice to its style. The fake wood looks great and in my opinion you are wasting your money in buying a woodkit.
3. Low price with a 600 round Hi-cap. Nothing wrong with that
Bottom line is get the gun. You may be drawn to the metal body and higher fps of a CA or ICS gun, but just trust me on this one. BUY THIS GUN.------------------------------ A man askes his companion, "What's the most common French expression"? His friend scratches his head, shrugs his shoulders and replies, "I give up!"

Good short review, i believe this rifle is one the best AEGs out there.
600 round hi-cap mag.
Robust construction (unbreakable to a certain degree)
Unique as everyone has a MP5 or M16 of some sort.
Did i mention robust?
There you have great for beginners and better for veterans. Buy one.------------------------------

Well this was my 6th TM AEG and what a good model this AEG is.
Everything is great on this electric rifle, from HOP SLIDER to trigger. Fire select is also good and interestingly goes: SAFE, AUTO, SEMI which is great for a SEMI lover. should it get heavily knocked, then you get full auto rather than safety.
Action is pioneered in this gun. the V3 gearbox was designed specifically designed for THIS model. Not just some older gearbox fiddled with to fit (like some other guns). The gun performs amazingly well for a stock AEG. Indeed this gun chronographed the highest I have seen a TM AEG shoot out of the box (a consistant 300fps!)
Accuracy is in my top 5 AEG's of all time (I have fired almost all TM aeg's in the past). Very impressive.
Wonder if it is anything to do with the muzzle? The barrel ends abruptly with no flash hider. No cavity is present to restrict airflow unlike G3's and I suspect this has helped to increase performance (even if only a tiny amount).
This guns is super reliable and with the large battery powering it, this gun can spew out 0.20g pellets, till the cows come home; if you like that sort of thing.
I find the banana mags are great for firefighting however I rate this gun for semi auto sniping and recommend the smaller 250 high cap, if they are allowed on your site.
Only downsides are the poor scope mounts that are available unless you want to spend loads of cash. Even some of the metal ones are pretty soft metal and can bend in your gunbag.
The existing iron sights are fine yet abit slow sometimes as the rear sight is so far forward. Very accurate though.
Stock is comfortable and houses an 8.4v what more do you want? Although the butt plate is plastic and can fall off if knocked in a game.
A sling can be fitted without barrel wobble. Which beats any Armalite.
Amazing starter and PRO AEG good all round with easy handling and suprisingly SLIM once you get to hold it.
BUY ONE you will not regret it. If you ask me, you get more for your money here compared to ther more plastic AEG's. A bargain and master Airsoft gun to boot. I started playing airsoft a few years ago when a good friend of mine introduced me to his TM M16 and CA MP5. I was totally hooked, but of course, I needed a gun of my own. Having an very great interest in all things AK, I read some reviews to see what kind of reputation Marui's AK model had and eventually bought one from Airsoft Extreme.
I remember the day it arrived perfectly. I was still in High School, and one afternoon I came home to find a long brown box sitting on my front porch. Immediately I rushed inside to open the package up, however this ecstacy was short lived because I needed to get to my afternoon math lesson! What a bummer.....
But I will spare you the rest of the details, and will keep this review short and simple. The TM Ak-47 has got to be one of THE BEST out-of the box AEGs there is (and just about every single review you will read on it will say the same thing). It happens to be my only AEG, but I have experience with many others.
Build Quality:
Very, very strong. Metal is found all over the gun, though the main body is still plastic like any other TM out there. There is little if any flex...the only real possible place for this would be in the foregrip. The barrel is held tightly and does not wobble (TM M16, anyone?), which is also a big plus. I have to say that this replica was made very well.
Performance:
You could say that the AK-47 performs like any other stock Tokyo Marui, but there are little details here and there that have won this weapon over for me. First of all, FPS and range has never been a problem and is, in my opinion, excellent for a stock gun. The version 3 gearbox gives a nice rate of fire with a large 8.4 1800 mah battery, and the High-capacity magazines hold enough BBs to give you a wanna-be support weapon (600 rounds). I am not the biggest fan of high caps, but this is still a nice feature. The iron sights work very well (in my opinion). Some may not like the design compared to Armalites and MP5s, but the AK sights are very easy to use and give you a great field of vision. Also, the hop-up adjustment is small, but accurate. I have just about never had a problem with the hop-up needing to be adjusted during a game. Usually, once set right, this hop-up will stick with you for a good while.
The Bad:
Honestly, there isn't a whole lot to list here. The only real problem I have run into involves the screws in the front sight coming loose. This can be annoying, but is nothing the right sized screw driver can't fix. Other owners have complained about the stock and pistol grip also coming loose, but I have never had this problem before. I do make sure that my screws are nice and tight before playing, so they have never given me any trouble.
One more note: The buttplate can have a good bit of pressure put on it from the battery and does have a habbit of poping off during games. I always use duct tape or electrical tape to make sure it stays in place.
Really the only thing that would keep people from enjoying this AEG is if they simply don't like AKs. Some don't like the fire selector, some dont like the sights, others don't like the looks. Obviously, if you don't like the looks of an AK-47, consider investing in another gun. I heave heard people say that external upgrades are hard to find for AK-47s, and that is probably true if you want a lot of rails and all sorts of flashy extras hanging off of your gun. However, there are all sorts of full metal bodies, wood kits to replace the plastic foregrip, pistol grip and stock, and even full conversion kits so you can build a unique variation of the original AK. These kits are very nice, but expensive as hell. They come in flavors like AK-74, AKs-74u, Ak-101, RPK, Ak-104....the list goes on. So I wouldn't say that the AK is lacking in the upgrade department....there just aren't as many "tactical" add ons like there are for the M4 and MP5.
Well that just about wraps it up for me....
I guess to close I will say that I have had this gun for 4 years and it has never failed me. Also, I have never felt the need to upgrade the internals in any way (though I will probably do it eventually). In stock form, this gun has performed against many different weapons of various upgraded levels and has always kept up. I highly recomend this AEG to newbies and advanced players alike.------------------------------ Whoracle uses and abuses: VFC AKS-74UN (DX) CA G36K TM Spetsnaz KJW P226

Tokyo Marui AK47
Why I bought it:
Well after my AE Mp5 broke in February I was very ain: because I had put around $400 into it. That I went to play paintball. Long story short it was to expensive so I bought a Crosman, then I needed an actually upgradeable gun so after hearing all the CA horror stories I opted for the TM AK for its sturdiness and reliability.
Ordering:
I ordered it off of airsoftatlanta.com because they were the closest store that had it in stock and my dad wanted to order it over the phone. The gun was ordered on a Friday and came on a Wednesday. Airsoft Atlanta shipped it very fast 3 days to Maine. Everything came in pristine condition, I will use them more and I have but I will talk about that later.
The Box:

I guess a lot of the box had trade mark infringement due to a lot of cut out areas. The box that my items was shipped in was full of Styrofoam peanuts. Nothing could get damaged in there. On the box itself there is not much to look at other than the picture of the AK47. The box is 40.5" in length and 10.5" in width.
What you get:
In the box you will find the Tokyo Marui AK47

The Manual

A low capacity 70 round magazine

A black replacement tip, cleaning/unjamming rod, and rod design loader for the magazine.
The gun:
The AK47 measures 35" across and about 8" in height. If you have heard about the wood be bad don't believe it. The wood on this beast looks down right awesome. The coloring is just perfect. Under the selector switch you will notice it says "ASCK MADE IN JAPAN" and "TOKYO MARUI CO. LTD."

The hop-up adjuster is located under the bolt and is rather stiff, it will never move on you in game

One complaint would be the front sight, the screw is to small in diameter to the hole and it basically just sits in their, I have remedy this with two strips of duct tape on either side of the front sight which keeps it from moving. Another complaint is the stock it doesn't like batteries It couldn't hold my 8.4V 42000Mah battery nor my 8.4V 1800Mah battery there just to long.

You can see how the battery sticks out a bit to far:

Shooting/Skirmish Report:
This is my first TM and I was somewhat skeptical about the distance. I took my first shot with the hop-up of using the included .25's and the bb went down after about 70-80' pretty disappointing though I was also surprised at the smoothness of the gearbox. Then I moved the hop-up to about the 3rd biggest line up. The bb went soaring and hit the tree right where I aimed about 130' away from me (proves FPS isn't everything). I was amazed at the distance of it. I moved the selector up a notch to full-auto and boy was this thing fast. I'd say about 15RPS with my 8.4V 4200Mah battery. The gun shoots at around a constant 280-290FPS. Once you have tried out a TM you will find that it in fact works better with .25's. The bb's just go farther than .2's. You may want to keep that in mind when purchasing a TM.
I have used this gun in 3 games and I have more than been able to hold my own. Notably last weekend I was in a 52 person game and going against upgraded CA's and ICS wasn't a problem for me. The only upgrade I would do internally would be a tightbore barrel.
Pros:
Relatively Cheap
Reliable
Durable
High Metal Content
Look
Feel
Performance
Cons:
Small Stock Compartment
Front Sight Wobble
Minimal Barrel Wobble
I would recommend this gun to anyone who plays in woodland environments. It has a barrel longer than that of a M4, but is shorter and more maneuverable then a M16. It is different and just as modular as an Armalite.------------------------------ Current Primary: Tokyo Marui AK47 (stock) -King Arms AK RIS -CA Double Screw Silencer -UTG Vertical Foregrip -No-Name Laser -BSA Red Dot
