This product is absolutely faultless!!!!!
This is the first and only product I have EVER used that does not have one single down-side - it is PERFECT!
There wasn't even enough room in the "Pros" section of this review to fit all of the good points, so here is the full list...
"Perfect fit, flawless hold on pistol, adjustable angle on belt, adjustable for different belt widths, unbreakable plastic construction, self-gripping latteral loops, pistol feels almost weightless when hostered, VERY fast draw ability, secure retention from third-party tampering, no thumb-break, reasonable price-tag, trusted manufacturer, easily removable secondary attachment included free, protects pistol from damage, protects trigger from accidental actuation while holstered, VERY easy to re-holster pistol after use, open front to aid quick-draw and competition shooting."
Now to tell you why it is so good in detail...
Fits the Vast Majority of Pistols
First off, this holster is available in various different formats - one for every popular pistol in production. It is also available in Left Handed and Right Handed formats for most guns. For the purposes of this review, I purchased 1 left handed and 1 right handed holster for the Glock 19 / 23, and 1 right handed holster for the H&K USP Compact - that is three different holsters in total.
Each type of holster is manufactured for a specific type of pistol. For example, you cannot fit a Colt 1911 in a SERPA holster designed for a Glock 19, as the shape of the holster is specific to the design of the gun. This makes for a perfect fit and the secure retention of the gun designed for the holster.
Innovative and Reliable SERPA Technology
The holster uses an amazing new system called the SERPA system. This system abandons the tradition of the thumb-break (the strap that holds the back of the slide in place and requires you to 'pop open' this strap with your thumb before the gun can be drawn) and replaces it with a latch that grips the trigger-guard of the gun solidly in place. This latch is disengaged with the use of a push-button that is in line with the trigger itself. The end result is that when you press this button and draw the gun from the holster, your finger automatically falls on the trigger during the drawing process. The gun CANNOT fall out of the holster as it is held VERY securely in the holster until this button is pressed by the shooter. A guard around the button ensures that this button is not pressed accidentally if you fall against the ground or associated debris.
The Options are Endless
The holster is also VERY adjustable. Two screws allow you to adjust the width of the belt-slits on either side of this holster. Simply feed your chosen belt through the slots and adjust as necessary. This makes for a perfect fit of holster to belt and stops unneccessary twisting and movement of the gun and holster.
You can even adjust the angle of the holster to your own specifications. You can adjust the holster so that it tilts forward a bit, backward a bit, forward a lot, backward a lot, or straight up. It is all done by loosening three screws and adjusting as necessary.
If having a holster attached to your belt via belt-loops isn't your thing, you can have a detatchable belt-link (also included with the holster) that latches itself over the belt and inside the trousers / skirt to provide reliable retention with ease of removal.
Either system is usable - just choose which is best for you and attach that particular module.
Your Gun is Protected
The gun is entirely protected while it is in the holster. The back end of the gun is exposed, but this helps the shooter to draw the gun more easily. The barrel, front-slide, and trigger are entirely enclosed in the holster and cannot come to harm.
The holster is made from a flexible and resilient plastic compound which is moulded to fit a specific pistol type. It does an excellent job of protecting the pistol from damage during skirmishes.
Comfort Beyond Belief
The most amazing aspect of this particular holster is that it makes the holstered pistol feel almost weightless to the shooter - so much so, you can forget you even have a pistol on your hip! For me personally, I can wear a pistol in a normal holster for about 8 hours at the very most before it becomes noticable and uncomfortable. With the SERPA holster, I can wear a gun indefinitely without feeling any ill effects. It is a dream holster from a comfort stand-point.
Effective in Combat
The SERPA system has a few distinct advantages over every other type of holster avaialble.
- The SERPA system retains your pistol securely. You won't lose your pistol or have it fall out of your hoslter with this suystem. The SERPA system grips the trigger-guard tightly and only lets go when you press the detatch button.
- The SERPA release button allows the fastest of fast draws from a totally secured state.
- When drawing from a SERPA holster, your finger is automatically in place for the trigger of the gun you are drawing.
- The front of the holster is open which helps the shooter bring the gun on to the target much faster.
- Re-holstering is simple, fast, and reliable. The holster is solid so does not close up after the gun is taken from it. Re-holstering can be done in a fraction of a second and there is no need to apply a thumb-break before making lungeous movements.
- The gun can be carried in the SERPA holster indefinitely without causing the shooter any discomfort or pain. These holsters are very comfortable as long as they are adjusted correctly and they do not get in the way of normal non-shooting manouvres.
- Whether the gun is holstered or drawn, the tightness of the belt around the shooter remains unchanged. On traditional holsters, the belt around the shooter is tighter when the gun is holstered as the body of the gun warps the natural shape of the belt. This is not the case with the SERPA holster as the gun is held away from the belt.
- As an unexpected bonus, semi-auto pistols holstered in these SERPA holsters can be loaded while still in the holster. Simply grab the back end of the slide while the gun is anchored on your hip, pull back, and release. The gun is now loaded and ready for use. Definitely a bonus.
Conclusion
It's perfect. I REALLY can't find fault with this product, and I find faults very easily.
It's not like I got these for free and had to do a good review to please the people who gave them to me either. I bought these hoslters from WGC and paid full price.
I originally liked the idea of them when I placed the order, but nothing prepared me for how good they would actually be to use. They are amazing. I really can't find any other way of putting it.
I would give these holsters 28 out of 10 if I could, but I suppose 10 out of 10 will do for now
I recommend them to EVERYONE - particularly if you are serious about your pistols. You won't be disappointed. ------------------------------ New and inspiring signature coming to an R22 post near you SOON...

Non expensive, easy to draw, never dropped my gun

Cons:

Waist mounted only unless you buy attachment parts

Yup! I'll have to agree. I've got one for my 1911 and it fits my gun perfectly. At first I was a little skeptical about the retention system as there are no straps holding on the back of the pistol but up till now, it had yet to fall off.
My friend had tested it by grabbing my pistol and started yanking on it (without my consent) and was never able to yank it off. I run and jumped across obstacles and rolled all over the ground and my gun still remained on.
The only problem is that the inside was just bare plastic unlike safari land where there are soft lining inside but look at the difference in terms of the price tag!! Anyway, the bare plastic is smooth enough and I had yet to scratch my pistol up yet.
The only drawback was that the holster itself could only be attached to your waist initially unless you buy the STRIKE attachment where you could mount it to a modular system ie. on your thigh. The quickest way to draw a waist mounted pistol (for me anyway) is to have it mounted at an angle on the left but your pistol would hate you for it because as you go prone, the handle would stick out towards the ground (or you may even be lying on the pistol). I do not like mounting it on the right as it is to close to your shoulder and you would need to retract your arm into an unnatural position to withdraw your pistol. As a result my pistol had suffered some pretty extreme abuse!
There are versions out now that mounts as a drop leg holster but they are much more expensive. I am considering on purchasing a STRIKE platform attachment so I could mount it my thigh so my pistol “should” suffer less abuse while on my right leg and the reach is long enough so I do not have to retract my arm unnaturally.------------------------------

Glock 17 9mm Using a Serpa Active Retention System by firearms instructor Yancey Harrington
On April 23 & 24, 2005 I attended a training class in Los Angeles, CA given by Gabe Suarez. The title of the course is Close Range Gunfighting II. By far this was not amongst my first tactical shooting or combat handgun courses that I have attended.
For this CRG II Class I was using a Glock 17, 9mm pistol and was carrying it with a Blackhawk Serpa with an Active Retention System (www.blackhawkindustries.com/product_detail.asp?product_id=3502&d=). During this two day course there were various force-on-force scenarios that we played out using gas (propane) powered airsoft pistols while wearing facial protection, eye protection and heavy upper torso clothing. I used one of Mr. Suarez’s gas powered Glock 17 airsoft pistols for a force-on-force scenario where I was to be defending against an assailant who would be initiating an attack from 2-3 meters away. I was to step off the line of attack at a 45 degree angle, draw the airsoft pistol and place accurate fire onto the assailant.
While facing each other, perhaps engaging with some small talk, the assailant reached for a concealed pistol. As I stepped off the line of attack I depressed the retention button and began to draw the pistol from the Serpa holster. I was a bit pumped, or juiced...was the term used meaning I was in a highly excited state. As I continued to draw the pistol after depressing the retention release button my index finger continued to apply pressure along the side of the holster. As the pistol cleared the holster, my index finger, still applying pressure from pressing the retention release button, landed on the trigger of the airsoft Glock pistol causing to discharge. The airsoft 6mm pellet impacted on back portion of my upper leg. I continued the exercise thinking that the assailant had hit me and put two pellets into his upper torso.
Mr. Suarez then approached me and said, “You just shot yourself”. It then occurred to me that my body was orientated in such a fashion whereas the assailant could not have hit me in the rear of the upper right leg. We then recreated this couple of more times and we were able to repeat the issue.
Conclusion:
In a highly charged situation or armed confrontation fine motor skills default to gross motor skills. It takes a fine motor skill to depress the retention button on the Serpa Active Retention holster to withdraw the firearm that is sitting in it. The is a distinct possibility that the individual, during their draw stroke could continue to apply pressure with the index finger and that index finger could strike the trigger causing the firearm to discharge
