Positive aspects of the product (pros): lightweight, cheap, good performance, solid, silenced
Cons: slight play on bolt handle

Well I swapped my SD6 for a VSR G-SPEC, yet again just because I have faith in TM's modern releases. I was again, not dissapointed.

The gun arrived and I assembled it (the furniture can be removed with 2 allen key bolts). The gun felt very light compared to my APS even though it is only a fifth lighter. The G-SPEC has great balance and handles like a dream. It feels shorter than the APS, even though it is actually the same length. I like my guns to be lightweight helps give you an edge in the game. This really helps if you crawl alot.

The furniture may only be black plastic, yet it fits like an ergonomic glove. The outer barrel is a bull barrel and solidly constructed from metal. At the end of this outer barrel is an attachment with a none 14mm thread. The supplied G-SPEC silencer screws onto here if desired.

The silencer is again metal. It does make the gun longer, but unlike many silencers this one has much more effect. At long ranges many players have found this gun to be inaudible amongst other background noise. Without the silencer, the g-SPEC is far louder and easy to locate.

Inside teh silencer is a series of plastic funnels with foam in between. This silencer is better than the TM Knights Silencer when it comes to effectiveness.

The barrel is a brass tight bore (although I do not know it's diameter) the barrel has a crater cut or taper. The HOP unit is in a metal box under the barrel. At the left hand side of the front grip, the HOP lever protrudes and a sticker runs alongside it. Marked on the sticker are a series of notches to help set the hop exactly and quickly. The HOP lever itself clicks as it is moved up and down, ensuring that it cannot slip. I find that with 0.25g ammo the HOP needs to be set just under maximum.

The reciever is again metal construction with a scope rail fitted as standard. Note this gun has no iron sights at all, so a scope is essential.

The bolt is a nice metal affair that lifts up through a 60 degree arc and is then drawn back to cock the mechanism. The handle is smooth (although it is smoother now I greased it with ABBEY gun grease LT2) and easy to cock the rifle in your shoulder.

The cocking handle can make a fair bit of noise on this gun unless you take your time. It is easier to locate than the shots themselves. However, when the bolt is down, it has a little bit of play (up and down) that is one of my few niggles with this rifle.

The G-SPEC comes with sling swivels supplied, although I find these squeek unless you oil them. They also knock on the furniture. I removed them and fitted a loop of paracord through each stud instead. Then ran the sling through the loops to make a silent set of swivels more fitting for a sniper rifle. Incidentally, a bipod can be attached to the front stud easily if you are crawling sniper. I however have no need for a stand and like the guns balance without one.

I fitted a scope 3-9X40 WA with low mounts and it is zeroed, after making sure it was dead level.

The gun performs great out of the box at 300fps. Many will say a sniper rifle needs to be more powerful. However, this gun is more than capable in dense terrain and can handle itself with 0.25g ammo out to 50m. Range is greatly increased when shooting downhill with this rifle (like all Airsoft guns).

I found this gun gave me confidence to shoot and hit the target. It is amazingly accurate out to 30m after which grouping is good enough to shoot at man sized targets. It also gave me the confidence to know that over 30m, if I missed, the target would not necessarily hear the shot. Espescially if moving.

Many of my victims have said afterwards that they never heard the rifles report, just felt a pellet hit them out of nowhere.

The mags are released via a counter sunk plastic button underneath the front furniture. They are loaded one pellet at a time. A loading rod or speed loaded can certainly speed this up. They hold 30 pellets and fire every round. There is no feeding issue with the TM mags. If teh mag is removed, a pellet falls out onto the floor though.

The trigger is nice enough and is fully adjustable for tension and pressure required to fire the gun. This is a nice touch and something APS owners pay alot of money for. The trigger mech is metal too.

Upgrading this rifle requires more skill as some pins must be drilled out. Even though my VSR came with this mod done, I doubt I will bother fitting a new spring. You see, I use this rifle for summer games with reduced ranges and find it is perfect for closer range stuff. I would even go to say it is more accurate than my APS out to 30m, then the APS takes over the lead.

However the lighter 0.25g ammo may struggle in the wind more than 0.30g. In winter when ranges open up I will revert back to my longer ranged APS.

If you want a good sniper base or even complete package then look no further than this gun. It does everything you want it to do out of the box. Without all of the tinkering other sniper systems require. A good practical sniper rifle for a very very fair price.

Yet again... I say buy one, you will not regret it. I've already got a string of HITS with this gun and out of my collection is starting to look like the best value for money.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Light, smooth and acurate
Cons: with the 400 ps upgrade the cocking handle is stiffer

I have been tinkering with the idea of a sniper rifle and took the plunge a month ago, in typical Firesupport style the gun took a month to upgrade to 400 fps but the job was well done and the additional scope made sure I could operate on the Urban game hosted on 09 May 08.
My main aim was to ensure i could out range the AEG’s as i feel there is little advantage of a single shot weapon over an automatic if the ranges are equal. Well the G-spec could and i had some great shooting with her. A few nice head shots over 70 ft! The G-spec is also a large rifle so looks intimidating.

Tips - You will need 2 extra mags for Urban sniping. Dont bother with a sling or bipod.
