This is my no B.S. assessment of the G&P Drop Pouch as most suppliers call it, I however think it is more suitable to call it the G&P Dump Pouch.
I first noticed ‘dump pouches’ appearing on U.S. websites a few years ago (say late 2002) at first I was a little unsure as to what they actually were used for and the name doesn’t really help that much. I mean dump pouch, sounds like a portable toilet (Americans read restroom) that you strap to your leg in case of mid combat emergencies. However a while later I started playing airsoft and at the time I was using a MP5 with a dozen or so low cap mags (wanted to keep it hard core milsim) and that’s when I realized exactly how useful a dump pouch could be! You see the problem is this: when your government is not paying for your mags you kinda wanna hold on to em. Sure its ok for Navy SEALS to just toss their mags away when they are empty but for me I kinda wanted to hold on to them and use them again next game. So when you reach for a fresh mag of course you restow the used one in the mag pouch that they came out of, right? Well yeah but if your like me your mag pouches are not double stack so getting them back into their individual modular pouch can take a second or two. Also when you have mags strapped all over the place it’s kinda hard to recall which mags are empty and which are full, especially when you’re under fire! That’s where the G&P Dump Pouch comes into play. Basically it’s a large pouch (around 3ltrs I would say) that you can literally just dump your empties into. There are two companies who make them in airsoft (to my knowledge anyway) Guarder and G&P. I thought the Guarder ones were just to expensive at US$40 each however there is no mistake that Guarder make good gear. My G&P one cost about US$18 so there was quite a difference in price.
The pouch itself is made of thick Cordura that will stand the test of time. G&P have done a great job of designing the pouch for maximum customizability; the pouch can be easy mounted to one of three positions: on the thigh, low ridding on a combat belt or standard mounted on a combat belt. G&P have provided all the necessary straps and mounting gear needed for each configuration, the other cool thing is that the straps etc that are not needed can be removed completely or tucked away neatly. The thing that I like most about this dump pouch is the slit in the top; basically the top of the pouch has a flap that can be uncovered so that when you need to ‘dump’ a mag you just shove it through the slit. This is very useful as to have a mag fall out is near impossible (provided you don’t do matrix style cartwheels during game play). The pouch can fit a few mags too! I can easily stow 8 M4 mags and all 12 MP5 mags which is great, a note however is that the pouch does get rather bulky when carrying this many empties so if you like to use low caps or just like spamming then it might pay to get a couple of these or figure out some other way of stowing emptys. When it comes to emptying the pouch G&P have made put a zipper that opens the whole top of the pouch, so it’s quite convenient to get in and out of.
All in all I think that this pouch is worth its weight in gold. So if you’re like me and use a lot of mags then go to WGC right now and order one, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed – by the way NO I don’t work for WGC or anything like that, they have em in stock for a good price and have a great reputation for international sales. Now all G&P need to do is make it in black as well!!
