Pros: N/A
Cons: N/A

Okay I just wanted to complie a brief comparison of several common types of Lightwieght tactical/combat boots available (mainly) in the UK. The ones I've listed are those I've owned over the last few years & used extensively. I'll update it when the chance arises.

US GI jungle boots £30-40 (Copy) £80 (Altama)

Classic US boot. Green & black version available.
Some have spike plate in the sole. One thing I find even with the modified Panama sole is the grip isn't as firm as other tread design when worn on concrete & mettled surfaces. Also the side panels are quite thin & offer minimal ankle protection. I found the toe cap a bit uncomfortable, the only boot I've ever had this problem with. I wouldn't recommend this boot for winter even with boot liners/seal skin socks.
General use, 7/10. 6/10 for the more expensive Altama because you really don't get much more for the money.

Hitec Magnum Classic guide price £45

Full leather or cordura versions available.
Something of a defining brand. Used by at lot of Police/Emegency service personel. Quite an old design now.
However they do wear well and the sole units seem to last longer than the many copies. They are a good all round boot with reasonable ankle protection and grip. 9/10

Hitec Magnum Desert £45

Desert sand coloured version, similar to amazon but with suede/cordura construction. Very comfortable & breathable footwear. With these I find a decent pair of thorlo socks essential to keep my feet happy at any time of year except summer. For the winter a pair of seal skins or boot liners are damn handy too. The only reason I didn't give them a higher score is because they aren't really a year round design without the liners. 7/10.

Edit. They'd get a higher rating but for them not really being wet weather kit. If you have to clean the suede use fine wet & dry sand paper not a wire "suede" brush as the tend to damage it.

Hitec Magnum Protector ST £60

Not a particularly light weight. These are designed for Police public order duties and feature steel toe & sole plates. They're also fire retardant. Something for the geerdo's who want a MOE rig possibly. Generally to heavy for skirmishing, a well padded boot though. The only Magnums I ever had to return, as the eyelets broke on my first pair. 4/10

Tracpac tactical boots £30

Okay they are a cheap boot from a maker some people will have nothing to do with. However if you consider the cost & the fact they are intended as a lightwieght boot they perform pretty well. Less anatomical foot shape than more expensive boots but not crippling in my experience. I still use mine as my stalking footwear (painted up OD & brown with krylon).
8/10, reasonable value for money.

Magnum Tactical sidezip £50

Pros: Tracpacs - price, authentic military issue look
Cons: Tracpacs - 'stock' fittings (no widths, no half sizes) & large percentage man-made materials

I have to qualify my 7/10 rating as a score I'd give them for 'suitability for purpose'.

Tracpacs have the reputation in the airsoft community as being 'rubbish'. But (IMHO) there is a bit of the snobbishness about preferring to buy expensive kit here. Remember, buying good boots is important - but not as important as it is to those people who use them for *REAL* military activities!

A real soldier may immediately say Tracpac are rubbish - but for an airsofter, who's boots may only get an outing to a session a couple of times a month, the quality issue is NOT as critical as those who's life depends on their kit not letting them down.

That said, if you do have feet which are anything but the norm (extra wide, of a half size, high arches or just plain odd!) these stock shaped and sized boots may not be for you.

As said in the main review, they are a bog-standard, cheap, light-weight boot and are perfectly serviceable if you accept them for what they are.

I bought mine as a budget boot to fill a need I have for a desert uniform loadout that I would NOT be wearing all the time. Hardly heavy use - so they will do just fine, and I saved my big spend for my primary set of boots.

(My primary loadout is woodland DPM, and my 'occassional' is desert DPM - which is where the Tracpacs come in.)
