Description:

A counterpart to the Marui FA-MAS SV, this gun is quite different cosmetically. It retains the FA-MAS internals which are common to both, yet on the outside, has quite a different feel and function. Unlike its counterpart, it comes with a few more interesting functions (Full-metal bipod, grenade sights, smaller trigger guard).

IMPRESSIONS
I got this gun in the mail today (Courtesy of Peter of AIM, great service! Thanks.), and promptly rushed home to open and try it.
The first thing I noticed was the fact that it was quite small. The gun was a bit larger then your average sub-machinegun, yet somehow managed to have a giant inner-barrel that beat almost all other weaponry.
The gun in the case looked fairly plasticy, yet upon picking it up and inspecting it more, there were a few metal parts on the gun (Outer barrel, cocking handle, trigger guard, and a few other things).
What I noticed, however, were the fact that there were 6 SIGHTS in total, used in different combinations for different scenarios.
The 6 different sights were 2 grenade sights (Front and back, then an unrelated one in front of the cocking handle), the front iron sight, and then a rear sight with 3 different settings (Daytime, dusk, and night). This, once one figured it out, was not very confusing (The grenade sights would do fairly well with a rifle grenade set, soon to be purchased).
The magazine was fully-metal, and felt quite well-built. This, I loaded fairly easily (only 25 rounds) with the loading tool it came with.
The gun was rather hefty, yet not so much so (I haven't weighed it, but I could hazard guess around 6 pounds), and can be dual-wielded if someone decides to (Or, just one-handed firing for room-cleaning. It can be fired one-handed from the hip, or if you're built like Arnold Schwartzennegar you can hold it like a pistol. I can only do so for a short period of time). The magazine could hold 60 rounds, and wasn't too shabby. However, the mag-release catch was like that of the AK, MP5 and STEYR, which (for some reason) I don't like not being able to drop the mag. However, it DOES save money if you lose things easily, or it's nighttime...
The (in my opinion) ugly handle was quite a drawback, yet I noticed it wasn't as high as I thought it would be. However, it is molded onto the top part, so it has to be sawed off...
The bipod was a nice touch, and I am going to guess it was solid-metal construction (looked and feeled that way). The lack of a front sling-mount doesn't bother me too much, as it isn't that heavy...
Also with the FA-MAS F1, there is a (also in my opinion) fairly nice trigger-guard, meant for single-finger instead of mittens. This takes away from the 'laser-gun' feel which I detest so much, so in my opinion, it is a plus.
The gun didn't come with any rails at all, so there was no-where to mount a sight, laser or anything like that. However, there is a rail made by Marui, that fits on the handle.
The mechbox is located behind the rubber buttplate, and is a nice touch. It gives the FA-MAS an insanely large barrel size, which is an advantage over the other guns.
Another advantage is, when I (stupidly) dry-fired it, a Rate of Fire from Hell! This gun sends 17 rounds a second (1000 rounds a minute) hurling down at a target, making it a great all-round LMG (Bipod included!).
USING THE GUN
First step is putting in the battery. I took the LARGE 8.4V battery it came with, and attached it to the wall-charger. 90 minutes later, nothing...
After inspecting the charger again, it turned out that it was at the wrong setting. My bad.
After charging it properly, I set it again and fired a burst.
What surprised me was how loud this gun was, a loud and fast BRAKBRAKBRAKBRAKBRAK filled the room. My next thought was "Wicked"...
To put in the battery, take the safety catch in front of the trigger, put it off safe, yet keep pressing it towards the top of the gun. After that, the battery cover just slides off.
Putting it back in is a bit of a pain in the ass, yet once you get the hang of it, it is fairly simple.
The Hop-Up dial is located under the cheek-plate (Ambidextrious, can be taken off and switched-sides for left-handed users). It is quite easy to use, a retarded monkey could probably figure it out in 10 seconds or so (Meaning one of us average Airsofters could do it in about 30... )
One of the unique things is that next to the fire selector (Located right below the butt, on the bottom behind the mag) there is a button to push to decompress the spring, to save shelf life. It's a nice feature, too.
There are 2 safeties on the gun, one at the trigger (Blocks your finger, and also jams the trigger so it can't be pulled from below), and one in the back at the fire-selector.
FIRING THE GUN
After about a day, I finally decided to get off my ass and try it. In a hallway, I set up a thick plastic hamper, attached a fleece sweater to the back of it and set it up in a way that ricochets would be next-to-impossible.
Upon setting up the gun from the target (The target was about 15 cm wide, with a 4 cm center target, what I was aiming for) approximately 10 meters away, I loaded 7 rounds into the clip and lined up a shot (Using day-time pinhole sights). I put shot after shot at the target, until it was empty, then got up and looked at it.
Each shot was approximately 2 inches down where from I was aiming, with no right-or-left deviations. They were bunched together fairly well, too, and seemed quite accurate.
Upon closer inspection, the reason that the shots were quite a bit lower was the fact that the FA-MAS handle (with the sights on top) was about 2-3 inches higher then the barrel, which shows that this gun could pull off accurate shots (at least, from that far. Eventually, I'll try from much, MUCH longer ranges).
PLANNED MODS
That god-damn ugly handle has to go, so it's going to be replaced with a nice one from a G36, supplied by Pokey
Also, a nice rail added to the bottom'd be good, perhaps a laser or flashlight could be attached.
M16 Magazines should be able to fit, as well.
Pictures!

FAMAS F1 (Pasted From Famas SV thread)
Well ill have to re-iterate this before i start but i wont mention it again, the FAMAS is made of indestuctilium, ive trodden on it, fallen on it and dropped it down stairs and in water and its still come out shooting. Every single one of the other guns me and a bunch of mates bought in a bulk order have had a technical hitch that stopped them using it for a while EXCEPT the FAMAS, oh And yes it does have a stunning rate of fire.
I bought mine as my first AEG about two years ago and it has performed excellently and held itself incredibly in skirmishes, especially the bullpup design that makes it so pointable that ive found myself shooting people before ive thought about taking aim and this could only be enchanced by a red-dot (need a very rare Scope mount which you can find at Airsoft Dynamics or so they say). As i have the F1 version with the Bipod ive freguently found myself playing support gunner for my group when we are out together so i am now the owner of three hi-caps which just about do my ammo needs. And if i am playing rifleman the L85 sling i have works perfectly with the FAMAS and comes highly recommended by moi
As i just mentioned i own the F1 version which is the version which has the bipod, ive found this very useful in defensive play and when ive gone off to play counter sniper with the FAMAS (i nailed someone from about 50 metres just using the iron sights with the stock FAMAS so thatll give you an idea of the accuracy of this thing even without a tightbore barrel)
Unforunately my FAMAS now makes a grinding noise whenever it fires due to the slightly weak manual reversal latch which is the only technical snag you ever hear about from FAMAS owners and this is normally confined to those whove upgraded heavily. This is a superficial issue though and the FAMAS will still keep lasting on
In the future however i will be switching to something chunkier and metal (ICS or CA armalite, ok armalite whore im sorry!) which is also easier to maintain, i have used real weapons a lot and while i love the feel of the FAMAS i would like something with a bit more of a heft to it in the future. however my FAMAS will still perform its role as a loan gun and an always trusty backup, especially as i trust it so much after two years of intensive yet faithful use ive had out of it without a hitch.
Excellent and has served me faithfully and i intend it to serve as my "spare" gun for new guys, and as my trusty backup.
Might i add it also sort of simulates the feel of an L85 if you dont want the associated price tag and in addition if you want to look contractor-ish without another bloody HK or armalite then this is the job, very hi-tec looking and futuristic in my opinion, but then thats the thing with the FAMAS in the end. It is about opinion about the looks.

Rate of fire, integral bipod, possibilities...
|
|
Cons:

Carry handle, ugly looks, battery cover.

My first AEG, I couldn't wait to get home from Wolf and open the package in the back of the car. When I did so and had charged the battery, I opened the battery cover, plugged in the battery and reached the first problem. The manual pics did not show how to close the battery cover quite righ. It took me half an hour before I could work out what to do (you have to push the cover down before where shown in the manual). This irritated me, but I coped.
The rate of fire is truly awsome on this gun and I was looking forward to laying down suppressive fire at Electro. That was until I tried to shoot my target. I missed with every shot (about 100 BBs). Now, I may not be a sniper, but I'm not retarded either and I couldn't work out where the BBs were going. It wasn't until I aimed for the very center of a large polystyrene square that I realised why. The shots had been going so low, that they'd been hitting the floor! Because of the stupid carry handle, you naturally aim 3-4" too low. This may not seem much, but for target-shooting and sniping, it's utterly useless, as you can't see what you're aiming at!
The bipod is also just a gimic, really, as either you lie prone all the time, or you fold it out of the way 'cos it's a real pain when on the move.
The plasticy feel and eventual creaking irritated me so much that in the end, I just sold the Famas and bought an MP5.
Grrr!
Unless you're enthusiastic enough to do extensive (and expensive) conversion work or don't take accurate shots, don't bother with this gun, it'll just drive you mad!
What a shame!

Well posting this to counter the last review. I have owned lots of AEG's over the last 15 years and this was my first.
It is a practical gaming gun with great performance. Looks do not matter to me (I try to stay unseen).
If you want something that will hit a target at long range on single shot, this gun is great. If you want a gun that looks good or is metal then maybe not for you.
Combined with 1000 pellets per minute and a large battery in a smallish gun with a massive barrel... this gun has all the features of someone who wants to do well in a game.
Remember this is the first AEG and tbh it has not been bettered 15 years on. OK fps is low compare to many others, but FPS is not everything. Accuracy and ability to switch to auto and become a suppressive player makes this thing a real contender even at long ranges (out to 50m).
Upto you but i still know 1 player out there that rates this over all the rest. Then look at the fact it just keeps going and going (the LANDROVER of the Airsoft world)... I know I have one that is 15 years old and still works (NON HOP 1991 version).
woodland or CQB games are no problem for this AEG.
A worthy purchase espescially if you add the heavy TM scope rail and a decent 3-9X40 scope. Some love it and some hate it. I no longer use AEG tbh, but this one is still up there and cheap too.
Don't overlook this highly practical gun. I give it 9 out of 10 as the SUPERMAS is better in my opinion as it gets rid of the pretty much useless bipod and replaces the trigger guard (that can get damaged) with a large grip guard.
Last but not least it has a release mechanism that keeps the parts in the rest position if your battery runs out.
TM made there mark with this design and 15 years on it is still being produced.... why?
'cos it is so damned good.

Giat Fa-Mas 5.56 F1 Review
So, I've been an armalite fan most of my life, and I still love em. Aftr owning two CA's though and loving them but getting bored of them fast I decided to turn to TM for a little fun. I had heard aweosme things about their guns and orginally I was thinking of getting a TM M4A1. Then I started playing Halo, and less Counter Strike Source. I began to love the bull-pup design and wanted a Battle Rifle badly. Well I looked around and BAM, there was my battle rifle. The Giat Fa-Mas made by Tokyo Mauri. I wanted one badly, and knew it was cheap. Beofre this though I owned a TM M3 Super 90, I sold it fast and then sold one of my pistols to work up the cahs for a Fa-Mas. I heard mixed things but overall it was my decison, I even went in with my best friend (Your Dogs Fat) and he got a Fa-Mas as well. So we ordered from Poweredge and recived them Wed. Now though, onto my review.
First off, I recived the gun and opened the package which is awesome. Marui makes the best packaging I think out of all the Aisoft rifle manufacturers at the moment. I opened it up to see a gloss black Fa-Mas. The gun came with Mauri's signature orange tip cover, and the signature "Hop Up" tie. I smiled as I picked the gun up and felt the weight. It was heavy in the back, but it fel even out when put against my shoulder.
I examined the gun closely and looked into everything I knew from the Fa-Mas reviews. Do I have any new advice to you potential Fa-Mas owners? Nope, all the reviews have hit everything already.
So I went and charged the battery, waited for a good long time, and I mena a long time. I ordered a 8.4 3300 Mah battery and I have a 600 Mah charger, blah. Hours later I finally got to fire. When I ordered the gun I also bought 2 Hi-Caps, so I loaded those up after I loaded my standard rounder.
Finally I fired her, the gearbox is quiet, and is attractive to listen to. I fired a few shots to test her out and then went to the standard hop up adjusting(loaced under th ejecton port cover flap) After doing that I ejected the mag and filled it back up(60 Rounder) set it for full auto and fired. It took 60 bbs in about 2.5 seconds... I sat there with my mouth gaping open. I have never seen an AEG with this ROF before. The rumors are true, it is a beast. You need to own Hi-Caps if you even plan on using Full Auto, because of it's intense ROF. The gun shoots about 280 FPS without hop up, so I'm guessing around 290 with, I don't have a chrono though so... I wouldn't know exactly. The gun shoots accuratly as well as any CA and if not farther because of the long inner barrel. I'm not sure about powerwise but it can match other guns.
For cosmetic purproses it comes with an attached bipod, as well as grenade sights etc. Nothing to fancy, the bipod ads a good weight to the gun but I doubt I will be uing it anytime soon. It does make the gun nice to display.
For the rest of my review well, everyone has already heard it. It has so many great aspects, but it has downsides too. There is NO body kit for the Fa-Mas while I think there should be. It's an awesome gun and a metal one would ROCK. It's all plasti so that is a dwonside, but it is a very sturdy rifle. I love the gun, it works well. Whislt no Metal, it is sturdy and feels strong. Am I gonna toss it against a wall... well not but if it is to drop I'm sure it'd be fine. Other than being a little outdated, and a little bit not metal. It's an awesome gun, upgrade potential is low because of the outdatedness but come on, I doubt somneone wants a 500FPS rifle anyways...
Total: 8.5/10
-1 for non metal kit etc...
-.5 for low upgrade ability.

I've had my FAMAS for several years now, and I've seen everything this gun has to offer. I have had several other guns, and this is by far my favorite.
The gun is awesome out of the box, and I used it for more than two years that way, beating out people with highly upgraded guns. The ROF is everything that people say, and the accuracy is as good as my bro's G3 SG-1. In the two years that I had it stock, I never had a single problem with it. It's probably seen over 50,000 rounds without a single misfeed, without a single jam.
People talk about two main problems with the FAMAS, which turn away many new buyers. One is the creaking, which can be fixed using some skillfully cut electrical tape (mine barely creaks at all, no more than any other TM).
The other main problem is that it has "low upgrade potential". That is a complete and utter load of ####. The gearbox is no harder to work with than a v2. It opens up just like the v2, uses compatible v2 parts in the gearbox. I have it running on an M120 spring and the standard FAMAS gears, and it shoots about 375 FPS, with an ROF that is higher than most stock TM's (still using the 8.4v). It's an absolute beast.
I would reccomend this to anyone who wants an all-around, durable gun. It's like having the range and accuracy of a G3 SG-1 combined with the compact size of an M4.
This would also be great for anyone who is new to the game, and wants and also wants a gun that is ready to use out of the box, but can grow with them as they become better.

I bought this in an all-inclusive package off DENTrinity, included free shipping, Hicap, Battery, charger, all for $297.
When it arrived, I was so exited, I slapped the battery in and ::click:: it wasn't charged. So after charging, loading, inspecting, and tightening of some screws (to fix the "wobble" and "creak" issues) I was ready to rock.
The fire rate is just plain remarkable, about 20/second, it empties a low-cap in a matter of seconds. Also, the accuracy is pinpoint, I was able to hit tiny (penny-sized) lego bricks at over 20 feet. The only problem is, the bullets start to drop at about 80 feet. It is perfect for CQB, with its perfect pointability and ROF, but for woodland, it is hard to engage at high ranges.
The FAMAS is not meant to be upgraded, it does what it's meant to in stock form, and it does it well.

Creaking problems (easily fixable)
|
|
The Giat Famas F1 by Tokyo Marui. It may be plastic, but don't think that means that its weak. The gun has a centimeter of high-density ABS plastic in places, you could probably run over it with a car and it'd still function. And once you make a small mod to fix the creaking it makes, it feels like a nice, solid gun.
The rate of fire on this gun is amazing, firing at an astonishing 17 rounds per second. They make 68 round magazines feel like 20 rounders because it fires so fast. Remember to stock up on magazines.
The range on the FAMAS is amazing, easily getting over 100 feet consistantly. The groupings at that range aren't too great, but thats to be expected, and its nothing a tightbore can't fix.
The FPS of the gun is decent, its around 275 but can be pushed up to around 300 with an aftermarket spring. People may say that the FAMAS is impossible to upgrade, but that is a complete lie. The FAMAS can be upgraded to around 1j by putting an aftermarket spring and metal bushings. I think the main reason that people thing the FAMAS cannot be upgraded is because it comes with high speed gears stock, which can cause the gun to not be able to push stronger springs.
Overall, its a great gun. I've skirmished with it once and I'm about to skirmish with it again today. Its a great beginners gun because of the cost, and I'd recommend it to anyone who wants a FAMAS.

Cons:

poor range, low power, heavy with scope mount, heavy in general, really hard to upgrade internals and externals, cannot take a 9.6 batery, creakier then a funhouse,

First let me say that the real FA-MAS is my one of my favorite guns of all time.
This airsoft gun, does not do it justice.
I play in the US with upgraded guns, they are usually shooting at around 350 to 380 FPS. We play in a midrange woodland area, DMRs would not like it. Sniping? Forget it.
Right now you are most likely thinking: Well thats good he said it has poor range.
Wrong!
Even a mid range battle is too far away for the FA-MAS to be really good. Mid range I classify as about 130" FYI.
It is not accurate enough, and the ROF wont make up for it.
So what are we left with? Well lets upgrade! Nope, not unless you have a FA-MAS guru at your site, or you think you can handle it. I myself do not work on gearboxes, I rather have the best shim job I can get instead of learning on my primary rifle.
So woodland is pretty much out then right? yup
CQB is workable with the FA-MAS ya? Now here is where most will certainly disagree with me.
I think that in CQB you would be better off with a submachine gun, rather then the FA-MASes HUGE plastic brick like body.
My FA-MAS weighed in at 12 lbs. with a scope mount, large battery, 4x32 scope, and hicap mag.
You do not want to be running around in CQB with a 12 lbs. brick, take my word for it.
Now, here we go with the: but is shoots faster then a TM MP5!
Who uses TM MP5s? No one from what I can tell. It's ICS or CA around here for MP5s, and they match the FA-MAS on a 8.4, and far surpass it on a 9.6.
The best part about the FA-MAS is how comfy it is to hold. I still havent had a rifle that feels like that since I sold mine. In that respect, I will miss it.
Conclusion:
The FA-MAS is getting really old, really fast. The clones are shooting better then it all around. The JG G36C does not creak at all. I still havent ever held a gun that heavy since lol.
Honestly, having played with many TMs, I honestly do not see the point of buying one. They are WAY over priced for ok plastic.
Upside for the FA-MAS:
G&G have announced that they will be releasing a FA-MAS soon. And for now, the JP FA-MAS "clone" looks interesting.
Here are the stats:
Build Material : Reinforced ABS ,Aluminium Construction
