Western Arms - MARSOC

The real steel version of this gun is made by Kimber for the U.S. Marine Corps Special Operations Command Det1 . And the Civilian version is called the Warrior. Faithfully reproduced by WA.

WA MARSOC vs. Kimber Warrior comparison shots by Military Moron hosted by AEX

This is a SCW version 2 and uses the WA 23 round Wilson Combat "Single Stack" magazine. There is a big difference in Gas capacity between this magazine and my WA ParaOrdnance mags. I also notice a difference in the slide kick, seeming to be weaker then the Para versions.

Replica accuracy and performance are typical high end WA.

Introduction

I've wanted a Kimber 1911 since i watch SWAT when it was released on the cinema and was contemplating buying a full metal one, but when it total up the cost it was near £450 with extra bits and to have it tuned up. Shortly after i decided againt this some posted up the Western Arms where releasing a MARSOC pistol. I waited and saved my cash, but spending it on other things in the meantime. By the time i had the cash WA had released the Kimber Warrior and the Desert Warrior. So i was stuck with 3 pistols that i liked and made the choice and went with the MARSOC. After paying for my order with WGC i recieved my order a week.

Real Steel info

Some 20 years ago, special requirements for the MEU (SOC) 1911 pistols were submitted by USMC Colonel Robert Young. Now retired, Colonel Young is Vice President of Gunsite Academy, in Paulden, Arizona, but while still in the Corps he submitted a sample 1911 pistol built to his specifications to the USMC's Precision Weapons Section (PWS) at Quantico, Virginia. Included features were:

-Standard 5" barrel throated for optimum reliability.
-Standard recoil spring guide and plug. Standard extractor.
-Novak LoMount Tritium Sights.
-Standard Trigger of 4 to 4.5 pounds.
-Beavertail-style grip safety with pad.
-Commander (spur) style hammer.
-Extended thumb safety.
-No firing pin safety.
-Lanyard loop on butt.
-Grooved front strap.
-Exterior edges dehorned.
-Beveled magazine well.
-Matte black finish.
-Wilson 7-shot magazine.

Col. Young recalled that the boys at Quantico must have liked the Novak LoMount Sight, as his pistol came back with a simple fixed sight in its place. The Marine Corps MEU (SOC) incorporated nearly all of Colonel Young's recommendatins and added other specifications in the years that followed. Recently MEU (SOC) began looking to commercial sources for a new, improved Model 1911- style pistol. Involved in this decision was the newly created Marine Corps Special Operations Command (SOCOM) Detachment 1 (Det 1).

This was the first time the USMC had become part of the U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), and Det-1 was assembled by Colonel Robert Coates, formerly of 1st Force. With some 87 magnificent U.S. Marine warriors hand picked from the USMC's Force Recon Companies, Marine Corps Companies, Marine Corps SOCOM (MCSOCOM, as the unit is called), is taking an active role with the SOCOM community in the Global War On Terrorism (GWOT) as you read this.

As the vanguard for a new Close Quarter Battle (CQB) 1911 pistol, the MCSOCOM pistol is known as the Interim Close Quarter Battle (ICQB) Pistol. It will be a proving ground for the final general-issue gun to MEU (SOC), a fighting force of larger than battalion strength. In addition to the above features, the ICQB Pistol will incorporate a number of others as follows:

-Front and rear slide cocking grooves.
-Slide-dovetailed front sight.
-Frame equipped with a mount for a tactical light.
-Sighted for 25 yards with .45 ACP 230 grain GI ball.
-Capable of achieving a 7-shot 25-yard group of 4 inches or less.
-Flat mainspring housing.
-Ed Brown Memory Grip Safety.
-Ambidextrous extended thumb safety.
-Pachmayr GM-45CS checkered black rubber grips (replaced with Simonich/Strider "Gunner Grips" in coyote brown).
-Trigger set at 5 +/ - pounds with no creep.
-Capable of firing 50,000 rounds without overhaul.
-Markings to include "U.S. Property" as per MIL-STD 130.
-Serial number specificity to Det 1.
Finished in matte black manganese phosphate.

Review

As soon as i lifted the lid on the Black WA SCW box, i felt like a kid on Christmas morning. After that long wait of nearly 5 months. I was well impressed with my new pistol.

When i picked up the gun i was impressed. IIRC, there was a inital run of the of the pistol with "Kimber" trades, but due to copyright WA later changed that to "Kinber". I was lucky to bag one with the "Kimber" trades. Also i was impressed with the rest of the markings. With "Kimber Yonkers NY U.S.A", U.S Military property USMC" and "DET1-113" on the right side of the frame. Chamber markings read "cal .45 NDT P".

After i ordered the MARSOC, a fellow forum member pointed me in the right direction for real deal gunner grips as he was getting them for his 1911. I has a poke about the sight and thought, yeah, i might just get myself a set of these. But when the pistol arrived the replicas that are fiited as standard would suffice.

I also like the ambi safety, due to me being a left handed shooter. With the combination of the grip safety, ambi safety and the grips the pistol sits comfortably in my hands.

The light rail is removeable and comes with a adapter that makes it a 20mm rail for attaching various tactical light or lasers. I was thinking of using a Surefire Military Series W112C weapon light once i'd sold one of my Kidney's on eBay.

The lanyard loop will be used once i order a Gemtech TRL.

All in all i'm well pleased with this and would recomend it to most.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Excellent build quality, all metal outer barrel, performance
Cons: Price, availability, filling mags with the bumber pad

Just to echo the previouls reviews this is one of the most solidly built GBB pistols I have come across. Fit and finish are excellent - having not owned a WA product before (A Marui collector) I was in for a real surprise.

The replica "gunner gerips" are a little lame compared to the real thing but they are suitable.

Den Trinity had this in my hands in the states three days from ordering.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Solid build quality, extreme attention to detail, accurate for a pistol, good stock fps, bottom rail, and a good blowback system.
Cons: In order to fill the clip up completely with gas, you need to get a gas canister with a long nozzle. Regular gas canister nozzles ARE NOT LONG ENOUGH.

Western Arms Kimber Warrior
By: genata

History of the Kimber 1911 series:

The Kimber line of 1911 series has been deemed the most accurate 1911 series on the market, from many different sources (for example rifleman magazine). Today the Kimber 1911 series is used by the whole Los Angles Police Department, as well as Los Angles S.W.A.T. It is not just LA that is making the switch to the Kimber line up of 1911’s, but S.W.A.T. teams everywhere in the U.S. are making the switch everyday. The Kimber Warrior is the civilian version of its big brother, the Kimber Desert Warrior, which is used today by the U.S. Marine Corps in Iraq. Now enough of the blah blah blah, on to the real review.

First Impression:

It was two years ago on Christmas day when I received one of my many airsoft guns. I remember scoping out my presents trying to figure out which box was my WA Kimber Desert Warrior. When I finally got to the Kimber Desert Warrior, I remember tearing off the wrapping paper as if my life depended on it. The Western Arms box said SCW on it. When I open the box I immediately feel in love with the gun, noticing all the detail, and workmanship that went into my Kimber Warrior.

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h4/goped07/DSC_0361.jpg

The gun comes with everything shown below:

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h4/goped07/DSC_0363.jpg

Now everything you see here has a purpose. The hex key is for adjusting your sights, the two tools over to the right are for the disassembling of your gun, and of course the gun does come with explicit instructions (I just forgot to include them in the picture).

Building/Construction:

I have to give a huge job well done to Western Arms. I believe most of the gun is made from Heavy duty plastic, and believe me this plastic is a lot stronger then some of the metal on AEG’s. I believe that my Kimber Warrior is the SCW.1 version. This is my only pistol to not give me one single problem in its two year combat experience, and it still looks like new.

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h4/goped07/DSC_0360.jpg

This gun does have the classic Kimber trade marks, and the Wilson Combat Clip. On the real steal version the Wilson combat clip is supposed to be a slap in magazine, meaning you do not need to press the clip reload button when loading a magazine. With the Western Arms Kimber Warrior, the Wilson combat magazine is also supposed to have the slap magazine feature. Though the Western Arms Kimber Warrior does not achieve this slap magazine feature, the gun has many other redeeming features to the gun. The gun (as I said earlier) comes with the Kimber trademarks:
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h4/goped07/DSC_0381.jpg

The gun also has the classic Wilson Combat magazine:

Pictures of most of the internals:
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h4/goped07/Seansairsoftreviewpics007.jpg

Function:

This gun operates the same exact way the real steal works. All you have to do is load up the clip with gas, then load the clip with ammo, and then lock and load. As you can see in the picture below, the clip holds 23 rounds + 1 in the chamber, coming out to a total of 24 rounds. The clip does hold a lot of rounds for a 1911 series gun, but you are going to need at least a total of three clips to effectively use this gun as a back up.

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h4/goped07/DSC_0365.jpg

When loading the clip with gas you will encounter a problem. The nozzle on most 134a canisters and Green Gas canisters are too small for the clip; therefore only enough gas for 1-3 shots gets in the gas chamber.

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h4/goped07/DSC_0375.jpg

As you can see in the picture the gas canister nozzle is just too small. There are two ways around this. One you take you Kimber Desert Warrior, and your Wilson Combat clip to your local airsoft dealer and test out different gas canisters to see which one works. Two you can do what I do, and just take the bottom part of the clip off so you can fill it up with gas.

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h4/goped07/DSC_0367.jpg

What I do with my Wilson combat clip is a fairly time consuming procedure when in the field, so I recommend doing this right before the airsoft matches starts. Before beginning this procedure make sure there is no gas in the clip, and make sure that there are no rounds in the clip.
For this procedure you will need just one 2.4mm, Philip head screwdriver.
First off when looking at the bottom of the clip, you will notice three small wholes. One is the area where you fill your clip up with gas; the other two wholes are screws. These two screws are Philips heads, so you are going to need your 2.4mm Philip head screw driver now. The two screws hold the Wilson combat logo on the bottom of the clip, so remove the two screws. Once you have removed the two screws gently remove the black Wilson Combat logo off the bottom of the clip. When you have the Wilson Combat logo off, the clip should look like this:

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h4/goped07/DSC_0378.jpg

As you can see the spring in the clip sticks out, DO NOT REMOVE THE SPRING FROM THE CLIP. You may now take your clip and fill it up with gas, the gas will go in fine, and give you clip a full chamber of gas. If this does not work check to see if the switch on the back of the clip is flipped up, if so this would cause the gas to go in one side and out the other (produced in the second picture below). Putting the Wilson combat logo back on the bottom of the clip is pretty self explanitory, just put the Wilson combat logo back on the bottom of the clip, then put the two screws back in there holes to make sure the Wilson logo stays on the bottom of the clip.

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h4/goped07/DSC_0376.jpg

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h4/goped07/DSC_0373.jpg
Make sure that the switch is down, and not pushing the gas release valve down.

This is one major flaw that Western Arms obviously over looked. My suggestion to Western Arms is not to redesign the clip, but just include a long gas nozzle that you can put on your gas canister to prevent this little problem.

Once you have emptied a clip, the breach should lock back.

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h4/goped07/DSC_0380.jpg

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h4/goped07/DSC_0379.jpg
To continue firing just pop in another clips and slide the breach forward, now you are good to go.

Performance:

The gun shoots 310-330fps out of the box, using green gas. I do not know the fps of the gun using 134a gas, but if I had to guess I would say 300fps. I strongly urge all of you to use 134a gas; it is a lot less harmful to the gun then green gas. When shooting my gun I was truly amazed by its range and accuracy. The gun was easily able to rip off headshots from 59 feet away, and the gun can get a body once every three shots at 86 feet away. The sights are fully adjustable, and the sights include white dots to help you aim better in darker areas.

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h4/goped07/DSC_0383.jpg

The gun has two functional safeties. One is located by the side, and the other is on the grip area of the gun, where your palm would be. If either of these is engaged the gun will not fire. When shooting this gun, you can’t help but have a smile on your face, due to the fantastic blowback. Another really neat feature on this gun is the trigger being fully adjustable.
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h4/goped07/DSC_0355.jpg

Conclusion:

In my opinion this is the best secondary gas pistol money can buy. The gun has plenty of power, and is very accurate. The gun has an effective range of hitting a target up to 80-90 feet away on a nice warm day, and I have recorded some 95+ feet kills (pure luck though). The latest and greatest version of the Kimber Warrior, the SCW.3 version, has a standard 6.03mm precision barrel, which boots its accuracy. The clip capacity holds a total of 23 in the clip +1 in the chamber, so you are going to need easily another two clips to effectively use this gun as a secondary. Overall this is the best gas pistol I own, and I enjoy shooting this gun every time.
