Positive aspects of the product (pros): lightweight, compact, quiet, can fit tracer best
Cons: poor HOP control, poor controls full stop, poor batteries, magwell splits

Bought this to be a backup for my APS SPORTER. Went for it's compact size and lightweight. The silencer can be removed to make it even smaller, in 2 seconds. The silencer dulls the report but doesn't silence it. Besides the motor noise is always evident.

I had used an MP5SD5 years before and had done well with it (it was the first HOP UP AEG I got to use in game). However, my SD6 product did not work upto the same spec, out of the box (I don't think). Despite still chronographing 270fps it just lacked the accuracy I remembered the SD5 having. I know they are the same gun internally.

The front handgrip comes off by removing to 2 lugs that are only held in place by tension from a rubber washer. (yep I lost one!)

I used the short 240 mags in it and these were great. However the mag well is 2 halves and they can begin to be prized apart. The problem is worse if you use the longer mags due to enhanced leverage. Every now and again you notice the mag well was coming apart and woudl have to carefully line up the metal pin and pushe the 2 halves of the outer casing back together.

The fire select has a massive distance to travel between semi and full auto. once there, the selector digs in your hand depending on how you are holding the AEG. It has slop and can easily wander between the 2 fire modes. In my eyes not positive enough.

The trigger is not as good as an Armalite and feels less responsive somehow.

Motor is EG700 and has V2 gearbox. The inner barrel only runs to the same length as an A5 or A4 version.

I fitted a TM low mount which was good. Mounting a 3-9 X 40. A WGC chunky grip (this item was awesome and made 1 handed handling of the SD6 easy).

I used a 9.6v 2100mah Nimh but found it just didn't have the punch i wanted. I ended up opting for an external battery.

The HOP unit is terrible I have now decided. The control is simply an arm that sticks up on the left hand side of the outer barrel, half way down the gun. That is just where my left hand thumb naturally wants to sit..... oh dear, the control is very exposed and any slight movement will knock it completely off to the point of jamming your gun when you open fire.

With poor strength and plasticy feel, I suggest this is one to avoid. Perhaps the MP5 has really been replaced by other electrics these days with better build and performance. G36?

I found the gun lacked the accuracy I wanted, despite stripping the HOP and putting it back together. There was no change. It was far less accurtae than my TM CAR15, which has a similar length barrel. I found it too big to be a sniper backup. Now I believe an electric pistol does that job better than an AEG.

Although I still hit people with it, it never went how I wanted so I swapped it for a G-SPEC. which was nice.... read the review...

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Short, good for smaller people, easy hop-up adjustment, every accesory is made for it
Cons: minor body creek (remidied by a metal body)

I bought this MP5 SD5 (the 5 and 6 are exactly identicle, with the exeption of the stock) at a Japanese department store, and brought it on my plane home. While I was in Japan, I set up targets all around a mountain. (My family owns a sqaure mile of mountain) The SD5 hit targets up to 100 ft. perfectly (.2g BB's) and consistantly. Now these are cans, so effective range in a skirmish should be 125-150ft. stock. The SD5 is a blast to fire, and it's not incredibly hard to dissasemble. (not something I'd do frequently though) Hop-up is easy to adjust on the fly, and won't slip.

The V2 gearbox does have a problem with lock ups during fast semiautomatic fire, but a quick burst on F/A fixes that. Body creek is minor, but evident and might give away your position (not likely) in a stealth attack.

Accesories are abundant, and diverse, ranging from scope mounts to barrel conversion kits. I personally installed a scope mount and it stays on, without wobble or instability. I highly reccommend this AEG for any n00b, or seasoned player, as it's a great platform for upgrading.
