What do you do when you can't decide between a laser or a torch for your weapon?? You buy and M6!
I wasnt too sure at the time what would be more useful for me, a torch to illuminate or distract or a laser to help with faster target acquisition, especially in low light conditions. I decided that I needed both, although at the time wasnt sure how much use I would get out of them. What I didn't want to do was keep carrying round and changing them over. There was the option of getting a laser mounted in the spring guide for the Glock but this would be gun specific, if i was spending out I wanted some flexability and this is where the M6 comes in.
According to Streamlight, no other product on the market today offers such a truely intergrated system that is as compact and cost effective, that is if you cal £250 UKRP cost effective!! Streamlight have combined military proven visible laser technology from the(LAM) Laser Aiming Module with a high intensity torch, from teh M3 range to create a great combination. The unit is constructed of chemical-resistant polymer with a tempered glass lens for easy cleaning.
Being of a high specification, it is what others are compared to, rather than itself being compared to something better. Adorned with a sticker for legal reasons because of the high specification laser it contains mounted below the Illuminator with the following specification:
LASER OUTPUT POWER (max) 3.0 - 3.5mw, class IIIa
LASER WAVELENGTH 650nm*
LASER BORESIGHT RETENTION <1.5" avg. at 25m
This has individual allen key bolts to allow zeroing of the laser. The unit has built in recoil protection, no so much of an issue on an airsoft weapon, but at least the laser wont need constant adjustment.
The light unit runs a xenon filled bulb with an output of 90+ lumens, with an option of 125 from the X series of units, bright enough for any situation, with a range of 25m. The beam pattern can be adjusted by turning the lens/bulb holder. It runs on 2 lithium 123 batteries and has a continuous run time of 60mins dual or 24hrs laser only.
The unit has the usual ambidextrous rocker switch, one way continuous, the other way momentary with a 4 position screw type knob to control combination of either Off, Vis (laser only), Ill (Light only) or Vis/Ill (Light and Laser together.
The unit itself is used on either my Glock or G36, and secures equally well to either of them. Taking seconds to change. The only addition for the G36 will be the long gun pressure switch, although there are plenty of other options for it, including pattern generators for the laser.
In use it works flawlessly, especially in CQB it is of great use and helps not only with targeting, but also as a tool for intimidation, especially when its smokey. The switch to select how u want the unit to work is small and hard to use so best to be set before use. It wont use the power until the unit is turned on anyway. In transit turning it off just helps to stop accidental discharge.
There isnt really anything out there like it. If you buy one you wont regret it, especially when you find yourself in a pitch black bunker.....
