This charger comes in two versions, one for the UK and one for the US market. The only difference is the plugs and voltage.
This particular charger from the TLP range, can charge from 1-15 cells, hence the name, so for those running 12v batteries, this is the charger for yuo especially.
Various retails quote different specification for this charger, some saying that it can charge from 110mah to 3300mah although I charge larger batteries than this and havent noticed them not charging fully.
The charger is capable of charging both Ni-MH and Ni-CAD cells. It has 4 functions that it can run. These are a slow charge, fast charge, discharge then fast charge or a triple cycle discharge charge. The discharge function runs at 4A. On the fast charge functions, once it has reached maximum charge it will swap to a slow trickle charge as not to damage the cells.
The built in LCD screen allows the voltage, amperage or capacity to be displayed at any time to keep a track of the charge process. On the fast charge the amperage can be changed, right up to 5.5amps, depending on how fast you wish to charge you battery. Obviously it is not wise to turn the dial past the capacity of the battery.
The charger has an autocut circuit with MOSFET technology. This makes it possible to control the current flow between drain and source which also helps to stop overcharging. The charger also uses Fuzzy Logic which in simple terms is like a computerised human brain. It resembles human decision making with its ability to work from approximate data to find precise solutions. Fuzzy logic allows complex systems to be modelled using a higher level of abstraction originating from our knowledge and experience, such as hot/cold, big/small and slow/fast among others.
As with most the TLP chargers, this can also be run off a 12v car battery, or if needed 110v AC and the unit can still auto detect and charge upto 14 cells this way.
As said before this is a simple plug and play charger. You can tweek it if you wish or just set it and leave it going, just stay away from that slow charge!!
