Most gearboxes at some point in their lifetime will need their bushes upgrading. Some gearboxes do come standard with metal bushes, but the majority are nylon which will wear out faster and start to allow play in the gears which can lead to damage depending on the severity of the play. Tye benifit of fitting metal gears is their increased durability and hence their prolonged life.
There are many manufacturers of 6mm metal bushes on the market. I chose to get a Systema set just because thats what others were using and recommended.
The set I went for imparticular were of the oiless variety. They are made out of a steel sintered metal, which has the pores infiltrated with oil. This helps to reduce surface friction against the bush to stop it from wearing down fast.
The one problem I encountered was actually fitting them. Many a person will say that bushes will be a push fit. These were far from it and weren't going to go into the gearbox without some force. In the end they were hammered it, with a few other bits to ensure a square fit, and also not to damage or bend the gearbox casing. They actually ruffled up the otherside of the gearbox.
Even though this happened, the bushes seem to be working fine with no noticable signs of any undue wear due to their fitment. One thing that will also need doing to ensure longetivity is proper shimming.
Although I'm sure that these are a great product I wont be purchasing them again for my own guns until either I have fitted some to another gun and prove that it was the gearbox that was undersized, or try another brand and find them an even worse fit.
