G&P 3000X Red Laser Review
Introduction
After playing Resident Evil 4 for 20 hours, I finally decided to add
a laser pointer to my pistols. Of course, I'd never use a laser
pointer in games against human players because of the danger of
damaging others' eyes, but it would certainly look cool when just
target shooting.
After a bit of research, the G&P 3000X Laser caught my eye (well, not
literally of course ). It's not as expensive as some of the
bigger tube laser for AEGs, but not as cheap looking as some of the
smaller ones either.
My order via Guns and Guys (again) went through quickly, and four
days later, the laser is at my door step. Inside the box, there's
the laser device, a CR123A battery, a small allan key, a set of
velcro with adhesive on the back, and couple small pieces that might
be some kind of replacement thingy. I suppose one piece of velcro can be glued
to the pressure switch, and the other piece of velcro to the grip of the gun.
Not too sure since there is no instructions at all, but again, it
doesn't take a rocket scientist to use a laser pointer.
External
The build of the laser module is really good comparing to the cheap
tube one I once had. The case is made of metal with nice even matte
black finish. On the left, it prints "3000-X"; and on the right,
it prints "G&P".
On the head, it clearly prints the battery type and direction used
in the laser, and warning messages as can be seen in the pictures
above.
On the back is a built in pressure switch. The cord for the
pressure switch is just long enough for looping around a normal pistol
trigger guard. The pressure pad is fairly large, and can be easily
accessed. The cord and pad seem to be made of good durable material
as well.
Mounting On
To mount the laser pointer onto a gun, the gun needs to have a
standard 20mm rail. I tried four guns, KSC G17, TM Sig P226, TM Hi
Cap 4.3, and WA Kimber TLE/RL II.
It was a tight fit on the G17. Not because the rail is out of spec,
but because the trigger guard is a bit too forward, but it fits, and
the locking lever will lock in the slot at the bottom of the rail.

On the Sig P226, the top of the trigger guard is even more forward
than the Glock, and the laser pointer fails to slide all the way in
so the locking lever can lock in.

On the Hi Capa, the laser pointer completely failed to be slided in
because the Hi Capa's rail is slightly wider than 20mm.
For the Kimber, the laser goes on beautifully.

I also tried to mount on my M4 RIS, but it is too loose on that.
Functions
Unscrewing the head module reveals the battery compartment, and
putting in the battery is as straight forward as doing it for a
flash light. Just pay attention to the direction of the battery
labeled on the laser. Unscrew the front half of the head, one gets
access to the adjustments of the laser. Using the small allan key in
the package, one can easily adjust elevation and windage of the
laser.
The laser beam is slightly oval shaped, not perfectly circular, but
it is very bright, and can be easily seen from 20m or 30m in
daylight.
Conclusion
The G&P 3000X is a nice looking device. It's as solid as a rock.
The only down side is that it doesn't fit on some of the guns unlike
the M3 Tac light, which can be mounted on all of the four guns
mentioned. And since it is made of metal, it's going to be hard to
modify the shape of it to fit guns such as the Sig P226.
Update: interestingly enough (or maybe not), G&P also have a 3000X tac light, and it looks like it just puts an M3 tac light head instead of the laser head module. However, the 3000X uses only one battery while the flashlight is usually powered by two CR123A batteries.
I don't have the G&P M3 tac light, but I have the KA model, and sure enough, the KA M3 lamp/reflector assembly can be put on the 3000X body, but the beam is only roughly half as bright. I didn't attempt to put the laser module on to the M3 body fearing that the extra power might damage the laser.

Full metal, nice feel, solid beam

Cons:

Vertically, it can only be set for one specific distance.

I bought this thing off Shao14 (great trader, highly recommended), and I must agree with everything that he said. It adds a nice balance to my Kimber, and it has this solid red beam which is easy to see, even over 50 feet. My only problem is, when you adjust the vertical setting, it could only be used a certain distance from the target to have pin point accuruacy, because say you zero'ed in the laser at 20 ft, when you move to 10 ft, the laser dot is going to be higher than where you're actually going to hit, or if you move to 50 ft, the dot is going to be low. I have not problems with the horrizontal adjustment, as it's perfect if you can hold your pistol in the same position as when you zero'ed it in. Mind you that these problems I have are though no flaw of the product itself, it's just something presend in all rail mounted lasers.
