Tanaka M700 AICS

The Tanaka M700 AICS is a replica of Accuracy International's A.I.C.S. (Accuracy International Chassis System) on a Remington M700 This is not a replica of any of AI's, AW line.

This is a gas, bolt action rifle and comes out of the box with very high fps. But unlike my Gen 1 M700 Police, the AICS come with the Power Control System (PCS) bolt. You can dial the system down in fps if you so desire. I'll post more later about the PS system. Performance is on par with teh other Tanaka M700. Bolt cycling is smooth and easy. Hopup is a very easy adjustment as with all Tanaka M700. The larger capacity magazine is a plus too! (That was my biggest gripe about the M700P)

The appearance of this replica is awesome! I will be taking the AICS to a local large caliber gun store called ARM USA for side by side comarisons to a real AICS. The OD stock with black furniture gives the AICS a very mil/aggro look. There are no iron sights, so optics are needed.

Since I have another Accuracy Internationl replica, the Maruzen Type 96, modeled after the AI L96, I thought a comparison would be in order since more people have probably seen the Type 96:

For those of us hoping that the AICS can use some of the Type 96's bolt on accessories. Below is what I can confirm.

Interchangeable
Bipod mount.

Not Interchangeable
Laylax PSS96 Quick Cheekpiece Screw for APS Type 96
Maruzen Vanishing Silencer for TYPE 96
Maruzen Mount Base for APS-2 / Type 96
Laylax Flash Hiders/Silencer Adapters for Type 96

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Looks, relatively light weight, cost
Cons: Chasis seam

Mine arrived yesterday so this is only a small review of my initial thoughts. Orca has a much more in depth review.

I'll start with the bad...

Though the overall quality of the rifle is good, the actual plastic chasis is made of two parts, on my rifle the join is not perfect. It's especially badin in the trigger assembly. The gap between the two shells is enough to feel some pain when holding it.

Apart from that, it's a glorius rifle that looks awesome, literally. I can say this safely as my other rifle is an M82A1.

Positive aspects of the product (pros):
Cons:

I picked this beauty up about 3 weeks after it was released. At the time there wasn't much info out about the gun, so I was a bit skeptical shelling out about $500 for the gun and then another $300 for mags, a scope and bipod.

Let me first start off by saying, taking a trip down to the Oakland AEX was an adventure all in itself. I browsed at the selection for a bit. Played with a K98, a CA25, and an FAL, until finally picking up the AICS.

On the cost comparison side, the CA25 and FAL would end up costing the same as the AICS upgraded with all the bells and whistles.

Picking up the AICS just "felt right" for me. For me (5'10" 190) it shoulders right where I want it to. It's got a good weight, with everything in reach.

It has three different stock settings to adjust the shoulder length, and the cheek rest can raise about 2 inches.

On the chrono it came out to a low of 492fps and a high of 523fps with .20's not quite the 550+ spouted on green gas, but I don't plan on using it that high anyways.

The FPS is fully adjustable with the Power Control System. If you can't turn it down low enough, just open it up on 134a.

I'd definitely recommend this gun. Although be prepared to shell out $75-90 bucks each for mags, although they do hold a respectable 28 rounds and enough gas for about 2 mags depending on how quickly you empty those 28.

I'm using a Harris Bipod, with after a slight mod fits snugly in the underside mount. On top I have a 3-9x40 with low mounts. On the inside I have a 6.01mm tightbore from DB Custom, which really improves the consistency of the shots, let alone adds about 40fps.

not the greatest of pictures but here they are.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Its a beauty
Cons:

A big beautiful beast. Worth every penny, but on the down side, the cost of the mags and various upgrades to really get this baby firing on all cylinders makes it a bit rich for some.

Having owned a APS 2 SV which I spent hundreds of pounds upgrading and never really felt happy with. Tanaka have brougt a smile to my face like I havent had in a long while in airsoft...
