I am by no means a geardo, but once in a while I do splurge a bit on
a piece of nice gear. This is one of those few times.
I first really noticed Maxpedition was in an airsoft store. I was
amused by its creative design and solid build. I then did some more
research on its product, and grew even more fond of its products. I
was originally looking to get a Rolly Polly as a mag dump pouch, but
then the Thermite Versipack caught my eye, and I ended up went for
more functionality at the cost of just slightly higher price.
Arnie has already thoroughly reviewed one of these before here
http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/?filnavn=/reviews/maxpedition_thermite/maxpedition_thermite_review.htm
, but it looks like his was an older production because the buckle
position is different. Nevertheless, not much is different, and
I'll try to make it short. I think everything there really needs to
be say has already been summed up nicely in Maxpedition's catalog.

Of course, I'll entertain you with a bit more of my words. But
really, you can pretty much stop reading right now because there's
not much more to be learned if you have read Arnie's review.
I got the khaki color as can be seen in the pictures above. It was
a bit smaller than I expected for a shoulder bag, but about the
normal size for drop leg pouch. There are two side pouches, one
main compartment, one zippered frontal compartment, and two zippered
pockets.
The two side pouches are perfect for things like cell phones,
flashlights, pistol mags, multitools, or anything of that kind of
size. The flaps are adjustable and is secured by velcro.
The zippered frontal compartment is under the main flap and in front
of the main compartment. There's a divider inside, and it's fairly
big, and enough to hold a palm pilot and a small notebook as can be
seen in the pictures above. Right in front of the frontal
compartment, there's a small pocket that can hold things like memory
cards, extra batteries and small items like that.
The main compartment is large enough to hold two bottles of water,
or a stack of M4 mags (see picture above), so this bag can also
serve as a dump pouch or just mag pouch. It can also hold a USP .45
without a problem, so it can serve as a holster as well if one
really wants, but of course, there's going to be more room in there
for just a pistol. There are two small pockets inside the main
compartment, but fairly useless if you ask me. There's also a water
resistant storm collar for the main compartment.
One of the zippered pockets is on the main flap, and is pretty
small. It can hold maybe a couple packs of gum. The other zippered
pocket is near the top, and is fairly deep as can be seen here, and
it'll be able to hold several more M4 mags.

Now, the cool thing about the Thermite is that it can be worn either
as a drop leg pouch,

Or a shoulder bag.

There's a separate strap that one can easily attach via velcro to
the back of the bag as a leg strap. There's a piece of elastic band
attached to the leg strap so it can be worn comfortably and
securely. When one wants to carry the bag as a should bag, simply
remove the leg strap, and use the belt strap as shoulder strap. If
the belt strap alone is not long enough for shoulder wear, one can
also connect the belt strap with the leg strap to increase the
length.
After all the pockets and features, how's the build quality? It's
made of some very tough nylon material, but I haven't used it much,
so can't comment on it's durability. It certainly seems that it can
take a ton of abuse. I will surely update this review if it's ever
torn or worn out, but you might not see that update anytime soon.
