Positive aspects of the product (pros):

Nice quality

Cons:

Was a little hard to put together

I ordered the G&P M16A1 front end when I decided that I wanted an M16 and I wanted a Vietnam style M16.
Initial Impressions:
When I recieved the front end, it came in a clear package with all the stuff inside it. No directions. Just the front end and all it's associated pieces.
What came in the box:
Handguards, front sight, metal outer barrel, everything that belongs on the front end of a gun.
Putting it together:
Like I said earlier, there were no directions. It took me much longer than it should to put it together becuase I had to figure out how to put it together myself. It was a tab bit difficult, but I managed. I was able to put it on my new Hurricane M16A1 metal body quite easily. The rod that is used to imitate the gas tube had to be sanded down about 2 or 3mm, but other than that it was a painless installation.
Quality:
This is a VERY nice front end. Everything on it is very nice. It looks good AND feels good.
Pros:
-Very nice quality and looks
Cons:
-No directions with package
-Was a little hard to put together becuase there were no directions
-Gas tube had to be sanded down 2 or 3mm to get onto metal body.
Overall: If you are looking for a new M16A1 front end, get this. It's very nice and will make a great addition to your M16A1/AR-15 stlye gun.

Nice quality and VN looks

No instructions

I agree with the first review, the product is great but the lack of instructions is just plain daft. It wouldn't cost G&P much to add a single diagram sheet.
After a day of trial and error, I managed to get it fitted to the G&P M16VN receiver. It's actually not dificulat at all, just a pain trying to figure it out without instructions. So here are a few tips:
a). The fake gas rod will fit easily, just take my word for it.
b). First job, pull back the delta ring and take the hand grips off.
c). Next, fit your inner barrel (with hop attached) first through the inside of the upper receiver, then through the outer barrel. Fix the hop in place with the little grub screw that is already in the outer barrel.
d). Now screw up the ring onto the receiver. This will be tight, so my advice is to spray it with silicon spray and try it a few times first. Don't try to get it tight first time, turn it a little further each time and then undo it again. The screw thread on the outside front of the receiver is painted black, this has got to clean off a little and this is the best way to do it.
e) Line up the hole in the delta ring, the springs and the C-clip so that the gas rod can pass through all 3 and into the front of the receiver.
f) Now, although the front sight seems to be fixed in place, it isn't. The pins are supplied, but not fitted. With a little help, the front sight will push forward (try more silicon spray if its stiff). On mine, by the time I had got the barrel and receiver screwed together, the front sight had moved forward by itself.
g) Insert the gas rod through the delta ring and into the receiver.
h) Pass the front of the gas rod through the hole in the front triangle plate and then slide the front sight back. Now look for the rod through the side hole in the sight, line up the hole in the rod and insert the pin.
i) Refit the hand grip.
j) Now pin the front sight, ensuring the 2 pins line up with the indents on the underside of the barrel. This gets the gas rod in place, in future you will be able to remove the hand grips in the normal way by simply pulling back on the delta ring.
k) Now fit and pin the front sling.
Job done!
I hope that helps and so far I'm extremely pleased with it. I won't give it a 10 just yet, but I might raise this score once I've used it in the field a bit.
Good points so far - well, firstly it looks the dogs! Second, it does seem well made, the outer barrel seems to be very high quality. I'm also impressed how strong it is once its put together, there is no movement at all between the receiver and front end. Not a single creek!
Another good point is the front flash hider. Although the VN version has a reputation as a good shovel and can scoop up mud if you dig it into the ground, it does screw off easily. So just unscrew it and poke out the mud with a stick and screw it back on. If you're under fire, put it back later once you've had the chance to clean it.
