Positive aspects of the product (pros): Fun, cheap, different models, over 4 variations
Cons: plastic, low power, shiny (in parts) wobbly sliding stock and magazine

Okay, i know you're getting fed up of my Springer reviews (*SIGH* not another one...), but i think this item deserves a special mention here as this was the first Airsoft springer budget rifle i ever owned (and it still works so it can't be THAT bad!)

Kangnam (or Dongsan) made a range of budget rifles and pistols not long back which were available in a number of different varieties (A4, A5, SD5, SD6 and an MP5K variant) and as i used to be skint in those dark and dreadful days (well, some things NEVER change ;D) i decided to invest in one. Originally bought back in January/February 1999, i bought the MP5-A5 Kangnam budget rifle from a shop advertised in Gun Mart (SMC Sussex Model Centre, back when they used to sell airsoft weapons) along with the Kangnam short barrelled Steyr Aug (i'll save the Aug for another day)

The gun is a shiny black and avocado green (foregrip on the A4 and A5 versions) and completely black (SD5 and SD6 versions) and comes with a magazine that holds around 40 or so rounds. The A5 model is a plinking weapon only, i.e it's suitable for low powered target practice, plinking in the garden. The magazine release is located on the right hand side and is a very shiny big silver button. Depressing this drops the light magazine easily and can then be filled one of 2 ways.

the first is to tip the magazine upside down and slide a small panel located in the base to one side. You can then use a speed loader to fill the magazine. Once the reservoir is full, the slide is pushed back to keep the BB's from falling out. You then pull the spring back on the front of the magazine and the BB's in the reservoir will roll out of a hole situated about 2-thirds of the way down the mag. Letting go of the spring then keeps the BB's in place.

The second way of loading is to simply pull and hold down the magazine spring and pour the BB's through the feeding slot on the top of the mag.

Once the magazine has been filled, slap it in and pull back the shiny silver lever on the left of the weapon to chamber a round. This fires a single shot. Repeat. The gun has a safety (that works!) which is dis-engaged by pushing the selector to (what would be on the real version) the full auto selection (safety is on the... well, straightforward "No-Fire" selector)

The stock has 3 adjustable lengths which are, full, closed and half (which on this version doesn't really help with aiming, looking hard, etc...) There are sling attachments, but to be fair they don't seem like they'd stand up to TOO much stress with a sling. The rear sight has four adjustable holes:- 2 small and 2 large which is adjusted by lifting the sight and turning it.

Power for this is around 180fps (approx) which, compared to some of TM's springer pistols isn't that impressive, but for the price you could do a lot worse.

The following year i bought another of the Kangnam range of MP5's this time, the MP5-SD5 which (unfortunately) met a very nasty end when my mate backed his car over it!!!! Fortunately, the stock was intact and i discovered that you can actually take off the sliding stock and replace it with a full sized one, turning your MP5-A5 into an MP5-A4! With the stock, aiming is slightly easier as the stock doesn't have a tendency to wobble as much as the sliding version does.

Ah well, for a budget "Cheapo" springer rifle for those on a budget (like me!) this may appeal to some people who (like me) love to collect old springer pistols and rifles and as i stated above, it's still going strong yet, so maybe there's still some hope for the humble springer after all.....

Darklite: Actually, I was using my AK - the shottie I had lent to Tink at that point.

*suitcase*, I best go and check it still works.
