Uncle Mike's is a pretty well known brand for making excellent inexpensive nylon and plastic holsters for
real steels. This one I got is their Sidekick series horizontal shoulder holster with single mag pouch on
the off side. They have all kinds of sizes to suit pretty much all the handguns one can imagine. I got the
size 15, which is good for guns such as GLOCKs or M9s. USPs will not fit because of their large trigger
guard. 1911s will also fit, but Uncle Mike recommend size 16 for 1911s. See the official holster selection
guide for the recommended sizes of different guns.
The built of the holster is very sturdy since it's designed for real steels. The holster is also "modular"
in the sense that it consists of pieces that connected via velcro. There are the shoulder pads, holster,
thumb break for the holster, and mag pouch. And it's fully adjustable. One can adjust the spacing between
the shoulder pads to suit his size, and one can also put the holster on either side with the mag pouch on the
other side, so it's also ambidextrous. (The thumb break can also be switched to the corresponding side when
one switch the holster side of course). Under the holster and the mag pouch, there are two retention straps
that loops onto your belt to keep the holster in place better. It is not necessary to use them, but a nice
feature to have if one wants.
My KSC G17 fits in the holster perfectly, and because of the nylon built, there's no worry of the holster
scratching the gun. The thumb break is easily adjustable with the included tool, and it provides excellent
retention of the gun. With a bit practice, the thumb break will not affect one's draw speed.
Wearing the rig is quite comfortable since it distribute the weight on your shoulders as opposed to the belt
holsters that'll drag down your pants.
In conclusion, I think this is a very nice holster rig, and an economic alternative to the expensive leather
rigs. If I have to pick something to improve, I'd say to put a double mag pouch of the off side instead of
the single mag pouch to balance the weight of the gun better.
