Positive aspects of the product (pros):
|
Great Design, Typical Maruzen APS goodness + many improvements
|
|
Cons:
|
Typical spring sniper probs

I do love the Accuracy International design (Thumb Hole + Large Caliber = Sexah). The Maruzen packaging was clean and secure as the other APS2 versions. Features include:
Cocking Indicator
Cylinder Quick Release
Adjustable Pad & Cheek Piece (Stock)
Length - 1150mm / 45.2in
Weight - 3340g / 7.4lbs
Inner Barrel Length - 500mm / 19.7in
Mag Capacity - 30 Rounds
This is Maruzens latest version of the APS series and I'm quite impressed with the features. The new features for the price, compared to the ASP2EX are impressive and the design and build of this rifle is excellent (I hope Tanaka gets a hint from this).
I wanted to put on my Versapod Bipod temporarily until the Maruzen bipod ships but it wouldn't sit correctly due to interference from the built on bipod adapter. So I mounted my Harris style bipod for now.
The Cocking Indicator is a nice addition. Visually or by feel you can check to see if your ready to fire.
Teh Emtpy magazine indicator is a nice addition. I may have to paint the sides red though. You really have to look at it to see it. Also of note, New Magazines that have a metal lower section. Not the all plastic ASP2 ones
Another great feature. Just push down on this latch and it enables the entire cylinder to be removed. When upgraded cylinder and bolts are available this will enable a person to carry more then 1 cylinder for either different fps, or as a backup. So instead of upgrading the existing cylinder I think I'm going to wait for full cylinder upgradeds to become available and carry a few.
Hop Up Adjustment!!! Being an owner of an APS2SV, the ability to adjust hopup was something I always wanted in an APS. Although you need and allen wrench to adjust unlike the Tanaka M700, at least the option for adjusting hopup exists now.
Accessories added so far:
OK 500fps Cylinder Set
Laylax Damper Cylinder Head Pro
Guarder Piston Head
Laylax PSS96 Quick Cheekpiece Screw
BEC Lighted Scope
APS Type 96 Bipod
Laylax L96 Real Hider Type 1
KM Lightweight Silencer
Guarder 51" Rifle Bag
Tac Force Sling
Over all it's a very impressive sniper rifle if just for the design alone. Will be adding more info later as the balance of accessories and upgrades come in.

Putting my money where my mouth is...
OMFG The A.I.C.S. is NOT an L96, AWP or AWM!!!

Most of the points i would have made have already been mentioned in the above review. Really nice springer. Ive had more kills with this thing on one skirmish than ive had with my mp5 over 3 full days. Love it.

needs upgrades to be a worthy sniper

while the main aspects of this gun have already been pointed out. I would like to add that when KLK Airsoft wanted to do a sniper. this is always our first option. here are a few points I would like to put forth.
1. because it is a springer, if you go the hi FPS route. then pull back on the charging handle can get very heavy. causing one to get tired fast.
2. Some of the key upgrades. (IE Laylax zero trigger system) are a bit high.
3. The stock while modeled after a true Accuracy international L96 stock. it is missing a support frame. causing balance to be a bit off at times. especially so if you have a silencer.
overall this is a great piece. and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a sniper rifle

my maruzen type 96 arrived today and i got a chance to field test it this afternoon.
the package included the rifle 1 magazine. 1 small packet of bb's. 2 allen keys for assembly and hop adjustment. a cleaning rod. some very optomisticly sized targets. instructions (all in japanese) and catalogues ect.
first off the finish of the rifle is superb everything looks crisp and well made. the stock is ABS but is completely free from creaks and wobble. the metal reciever/barrel are also excellent.
The bolt is easy to cycle at stock power (310 fps)
although it does sometimes catch on the square edge of the groove it sits into on the reciever.
nothing a quick filing down cant fix. Also when you fire this gun for the first time the spring 'sounds' really weak, dont let this fool you it will still reah out a fair distance. The Empty magazine indicator on my rifle doesnt seem to work , but i dont really care about that. The saftey and 'double trigger' both seem to work fine and the magazine is nice as when you remove it it doesnt drop a loose BB like an AEG mag. one thing that is a pain is the hop up adjustment. it sits inside the magwell quite deep and requires an allan key to adjust. there is no indicator as to how much hop is on so can be very tricky to adjust. When i disasembled the gun i noticed the stock hop unit it fairly crude in design.
The inner barrel is deceptivly short given that the
magwell is not in the real steel location but is infact
forward about 2 mag lengths under the hand grip.
this is to allow space for the cylinder.
the top rail functions well although mine needed tightening up as it was wobbly (the allan key provided fits the bolts). I have noticed that the
shape of the stock whilst looking beautiful is
slightly uncomfortable, particularly the front grip
where your hand is against very square furniture.
its true to the original but when carrying the rifle all day may affect you more than you think.
The rifle was tested at 50 meters and produced nice groupings on an A4 target.
by that i mean that i hit within the target every shot
whilst my friends with AEGs hit much less at that range. i was using .25's on my first test which were truly awesome. when i switched to .3's i noticed a drop in range although consistency was good even in some fairly heavy wind. cant wait to drop some upgrades in to really beef it up.
overall i'd say this was an excellent gun even if your keeping it at stock specification. it certainly has an accuracy bonus over AEG's provided you use the right ammo (i used .3's and it was great. when i tried some .2's it was less great as the rounds seemed to go wherever they wanted rather than where i was aiming). Buy one and you wont be dissapointed.
