HFC P229 Review:
The Sig Sauer P229 is the little brother of the P226. The real steel is famous for it's accuracy and reliability; Special Forces use the Sig P-series. The P229 is a modified P228 to take the .40 calibre. For more info on the real steel, see http://remtek.com/arms/sig/model/229/229.htm
To commence: The presentation on the box is pretty neat, stating the Hop Up and Heavyweight features of the pistol. Opening the box and picking up the P229 confirms this – weighing in at 620g! For a springer this is very impressive. The magazine weighs around a third of this – but most springers weigh the equivalent 400g when then have the mag in!
The magazine is sturdy and easily loaded, as per the norm with one-by-one loading here. Takes a max of 14.
The aesthetics of the gun are pretty pleasing – the black slide looks very good and sturdy with P229 stamped on but with no other markings. The grips are a tad shiny where the P229 logo should also be, but not a bad replica compared to some. There is also some metal content - Trigger, Barrel, Hammer. There are of course seamlines and close inspection reveals the quality is not quite as good as TM, but still not bad.
Performance: Stock performance of the gun is certainly not underwhelming, kicking out around 200-220 fps – actually rather decent for a springer.
The HFC P226 is not known for its power, however this is somewhat different! Accuracy is decent as well; with a max range of about 20 m and accurate to circa 15 m (with 0.2s) – therefore a cheap and viable backup weapon.
By no means a bad one for the collection: Well powered, decent accuracy, and expected quality for the price paid. Trades and less shine would benefit the pistol, but overall a decent attempt.
