Introduction
The Colt National Match is a modified variant of the Colt 1911. The National Match M1911 Pistols are hand fitted and tuned for the National Match competitions that began at Caldwell, NJ and became the Camp Perry match.
The gun arrives in very inspiring packaging, portraying the gun very well. This model is Chrome effect, and the finish is pretty decent – looking rather realistic however it is prone to wearing easily. There is little shine, and so a decent level of realism is achieved, yet on close inspection it is evident it is paint. The general fit and finish is without major seam lines and hence very good – far superior to that of the vast majority springers, inc. TM’s best.
There are some trades on the gun – with Colt National Match inscribed on the left of the slide. On the right, there is Energy: 1.0J Max; more about that later!
Feel
The gun feels extremely solid and is as realistic as springers come! It is definitely easy to mistake it for a gas model due to the 755g of the model! It fits great in the hand and is as satisfying as a GBB!
The mag is all metal and well made – meaning for excellent durability, and can be filled quickly with a speedloader if available, not necessarily 1-by-1. Holding only 12 rounds a spare mag is advised! There is slight wobble in the mag well when the mag is inserted. But this is not major. Further to the above, the slide locks back when cocking an empty mag – which looks great as well!
The slide pull is fairly long exposing the metal outer barrel that looks fantastic. The hop seems to be set to 0.2s and performs very well. Accuracy is superb, far better than any other spring pistol I have used – and better than all but the best GBBs. Elevation of the white-dot painted sights can also be adjusted (but not windage). The range is phenomenal – but this is not due to the hop-up, but the power. The slide stating 1.0J max is clearly very optimistic, however I am confident that the national match punches out at around 260 FPS (~0.6J) – absolutely superb for a springer!
Conclusion
The KWC Colt National Match is a premium example of a springer. The slide paint finish is pretty good, although a little prone to wear (few hundred rounds and the slide starts to have some wear). Accuracy and Power are superb, simply amazing. The whole heft and quality of the package make it a superb backup weapon or showpiece. Although quite pricy at around £50 retail, it is a great springer and in my opinion is more worthy as a backup than a cheap Gas Gun – simply to avoid their hassle.
