Positive aspects of the product (pros): Nice ride, ample power, almost a complete package
Cons: Handleing

History--

Toyota first launched the ES series in Japan with the branding of the model known in Japan as the Toyota "Windom". The car was essentially a Toyota a modified Camry V6 with an automatic transmission. However it was only when Toyota created "Lexus" which stands for Luxuary US, then was the Windom transformed to what many Americans know as the Lexus ES series. This review was done on my 2001 ES300 model.

Comparable to--
The ES line is lexus's entry level car that is made to compete against the Acura TSX as well as the Infinity G20 and I30. Pricing starts at around 30Gs.

Engine & Other exterior -
Well, my ES300 is the third generation of the ES line. The power plant is a Toyota 3.0 (hence the model ES 300) V6 that is simular to the one found on camrys of that model year, however the ES engine is specially tuned. The 3.0-liter 24-valve V6 delivers 210 horsepower and 220 pound-feet of torque provides ample power when making emergency manouvers or crusing on the highway. The car also features an electronic over-drive function to help gas milage, but can be turned off if you need to go fast. 0-60 is around 8seconds, not bad for a luxury car, remeber this isn't a sports car! The car comes standard with 4 wheel anti-lock disk brakes.

Cabin-
When sitting in the cabin you are treated to some real luxury. The car is has a full leather interior. That is complemented by the real walnut wood pannels located in the instrument panel. Both driver and front passagner seats are powered. Ride noise is subtle, and for the most part isolated. However one gripe has to do with the windows. This car has "frameless" windows, so sometimes the seal is not that good, and it is easy to hear wind noices comming in. Sound quality from the Nakamichi sound system is superb, perhaps even better than BOSE systems that are found on simular class of cars. With the premuim sound package you get the Nakamichi sound system as well as a 6 disk in-dash CD player. Rear seating is also not a problem as there is ample room.

Handling-
I'm not too sure what the orginal tires were, but I currently have 16-inch Toyo Touring tires on my car. The car suffers from understeer. However the uni-body does not give that much flex when going into turns. Suspension is alittle on the soft side. Handling is a bit "loose" and at times sloppy, nothing compared to the stiffness of a sports car, but can deal with agressive driving.

Relability-
So far this car is still running strong at around mid 48,000 miles and has had no accidents or need for repairs, treat nicely like any car, and it will run for years.

Overall-
If its a first car for your children, or a car for yourself, you really can't go wrong with the ES300. More of a cruiser, it can still feel sporty with it's large engine, while retaining the comfort and luxury that Lexus is so famous. for.
