A fighting game like most others, one of the only things that sets Melty Blood apart from the others is that it was not based off a comic book, but a Japanese adult game by the name of Tsukihime, as well as the fact that the game started on the PC instead of an arcade. The basic jist of the arcade mode is for each character to beat the snot out of each other. Of course, there is a storyline to the story mode, but nobody ever plays a fighting game for the story, now do they?
However, to class Melty Blood with other games, such as Marvel vs. Capcom 2, would be a large mistake, due to the fact that every character has his or her own weakness to go with their strengths, much unlike Cable, who's hard punch is a frickin' gun which can be spammed like nothing I've ever seen before...
