Positive aspects of the product (pros): Improved efficiency, reduced air leaks
Cons: Pricey

Since its release, this item has had my interest and I have very much wanted to try it out. As a small item however, it was generally not worth ordering solo, or was out of stock when the opportunity arose. While I focus on the use in my VSR, this item is part of Laylax’s nineball handgun upgrade system, so I have submitted the review to this section due to its wider application in the listed GBB's over the VSR series.

Since fitting a PSS10 bolt handle to my VSR, I needed higher scope rings, and took the chance to pick one up with them in an order from Firesupport (Cheers guys). So anyway, what do you get for the cost? (Which, as far as hop rubbers goes is quite pricey at ~$13 from HK or £10 from Firesupport which appear to be the only UK supplier)

A nice purple hop rubber, which can be fitted to a host of different Tokyo Marui offerings. The unique design of this hop rubber is what sets it apart from a straight replacement part.

When a round is chambered, the air nozzle travels forward, entering the hop rubber slightly, before the propellant, be it gas in a GBB or air in the VSR series, is output firing the bb. On standard hop rubbers, the seal around the nozzle is reasonable, but gas/air can still escape down the sides of the nozzle when the replica is fired down.

The theory with the nineball hop rubber is that an additional lip inside the hop bucking creates a sort of one-way valve around the nozzle. Air/gas is directed forward, and any trying to escape back out past the nozzle pushes upon this lip, further improving the seal, and therefore not allowing valuable power to be wasted.

So in short, the end result should be an increase in power output, which is probably your key desire if you buy this product.

As I own a G Spec and a chrono, I took the time to compare both stock and nineball hop rubbers for performance in both off and fully on positions. To those of you not aware the G Spec hop is unique in that a higher level of hop increase the seal and improves fps. Therefore while the findings below help to illustrate potential gains in fps, they are not necessarily directly applicable to potential benefits that may come from using this hop rubber in other models!

Findings are presented below. Each set of values is based over 10 shots with .2 Excel BBs. Chrono used Combro CB625.

-------------------------------
Stock hop rubber with hop off:
Avg: ?37.9
Max: ?41.0
Min: ?33.0
-------------------------------
Stock hop rubber with hop on max:
Avg: ?58.0
Max: ?60.0
Min: ?57.0
-------------------------------
Laylax hop rubber with hop on*:
Avg: ?45.1
Max: ?49.0
Min: ?43.0
-------------------------------
Laylax hop rubber with hop on max:
Avg: ?58.8
Max: ?61.0
Min: ?55.0
-------------------------------
* Hop had to be actuated slightly to retain bb in chamber. This may have affected lower hop fps readings slightly.

Findings can be summarised as:

Laylax rubber Vs stock rubber with hop off - Laylax rubber improved all values across the board. Max value increased by 7fps, min by 10fps, average 7.2fps higher with Laylax rubber.

Laylax rubber Vs stock rubber with hop on max -
Laylax rubber displayed less significant improvement, both overall and from shot to shot in comparison to the stock rubber. Min fps value saw 2fps reduction with the Laylax rubber, max increase by 1fps, and average .8fps higher.

Overall it can be seen that the Laylax hop rubber creates an improved seal at lower hop levels, while at upper levels power output stays similar to standard hop rubber (Likely as a result of optimal physical seal possible).

While these findings do apply to my G Spec, it is quite possible that fitting this hop rubber will allow fps improvement on GBB's also. As I no longer own any however, I can’t carry out tests to support this!

Additional testing in the field has shown this hop rubber to be more consistent shot to shot than the stock hop rubber. With accuracy another key consideration with regards to aftermarket hop parts, it certainly fulfils this requirement too.

Positive aspects of the product (pros): Increased Velocity, solves roll out problem
Cons: Requires more hop to acheive same trajectory

Fine product. I picked one up to see if it could helep my TM 5.1 hicapa with it's BB rollout issue, and it worked wonders. No more BB roll out.

It also noticably increases velocity. I doubted how much impact it would have, but it's quite obvious that it has a 10-15fps effect, maybe more.
The only real downside is that it seems to require a bit more hop to get the same trajectory as the stock hop rubber. No big deal, really.
